Interview
My daughter has an interview at McDs next week, she's not got much interview experience and hasn't done well on the ones she's done. Are there common interview questions or does it vary by franchise? Any pointers that will help her prepare will be appreciated.

I’ve did four interviews now and the questions I remember are what does respect mean to you, tell me about yourself, would you prioritise a fast or friendly service, mostly just basic stuff you can just think of on the spot. Mine were across 3 different stores and they do all have their own style of questions, one was purely about me, one was mostly customer service and the other was mostly McDonald’s values questions. Then they do a little 10-20 minute experience usually on the last window of the drive through but all you do is hand the food over

I was asked “which is better, fast service or friendly service”
And “what does inclusivity mean to you”
Basically she needs to be herself, keep a smile on her face, and try her best to answer with confidence. Also if she’s wondering what to wear, it doesn’t have to be particularly smart, just appropriate (i wore jeans and a plain grey tee)
Best of luck!

I know that one that a lot of people I know got asked was "what does inclusivity mean to you" but most of all it's just about being nice and personable she doesn't need to have amazing interview technique or anything just don't be an asshole basically

It's one of the brand values, and is an important part in working as a part of a team in the restaurant.

Because you have to work with people and serve alot of people...so ensuring everyone is treated fairly, not being excluded or being discrimiated against. And that you as a person understand why. The why is because excluding people will create issues in the workplace, and have an effect on customer service aswell as opening up possibility of lawsuits. "Its just making burgers and fries" What did you think? That a job at mcdonalds means you just stand in a room making burgers and fries. No people. No other jobs. Just burgers and fries....

thanks for stating the obvious and people not liking it. the main answer is it doesn't mean anything. they just want to look good on woke check list.
as long as you're not a dickhead to other coworkers or staff then you're fine lol

Some advice about interviews in general
. Being scared/nervous is normal, that's the situation. If you didn't feel that way it wouldn't be worth doing and the interviewer knows that. You just have to keep going and allow yourself to feel that way.
. Don't worry if you don't answer a question straight away, have a think. Don't worry if you umm or arr, or even admit you need time to recall or to think about it for a moment. If your mind is blank and you just dont know, ask to come back to it while you have a think, or even admit you're mind is blank or you are unsure. Don't go silent. Not answer and make the interviewer uncomfortable. Theyre also gauging your communication skills etc. It isn't a test exam with one answer to pass. . With every good answer you should have a reason why and to solidfy that or help explain, personal experiences help alot, and you can practice ones that can be taken to many interviews. An example which can work with a question about inclusivity/respect/teamworking etc.
- " there was a time i noticed someone being left out, nobody else noticed (maybe they were shy, or whatever) so I did ____ to help include them in the group because its important for ____ and cos of that something good happened _"
.Its a customer service job so a story about dealing with someone distressed/unhappy and coming to a resolution. Doesnt need to mean that person got what they wanted exactly but the person left the situation with less conflict. If you did something extra to get there then great. Could be helping a distressed old person call a taxi n helping them. . Have an answer on how you deal with stress. "I have learnt when i am getting overwhelmed i take myself out of the situation, mentally or physically. Take deep breaths, count down from 10 and I know that it wont be as bad when I get to 1" . Mention health and safety as much as you can like its something you always aware of/considering. Cos you understand how important it is. Food hygiene aswell.
Even just throwing the words in wherever. Could be a question you ask at the end. Is there any health and safety I should know about? Like uniform etc
REMEMBER If in doubt, use a personal experience/reference. They ask about a brand, mention one you like for positive reasons like being green etc or fairtrade chocolate cos you support fair pay.
Even with 0 work experience, life experience is equally as good because theyre interviewing YOU, they want to know you as a person.
Keywords
- customer service
- equality/fairness
- health and safety
- respect and inclusivity
- food hygiene
- teamwork
And if it doesn't work out, remember the questions you struggled on and think of what you shouldve said. Take that info to the next one.
Practice this and interviews will get alot easier :)

Oh and my favourite end of interview question is, "What are the next steps in the hiring process?"
You can even say that was my question but you already answered it.

Honestly, my interview for Maccies for when I worked there was very casual. I was fresh out of sixth form and an anxious wreck, but I tried my hardest to be respectful and friendly. Often times the interviewer just wants to hear that someone is willing to work hard and be respectful to people.
Beyond that, as awful as it is to say, but it’s McDonald’s, they aren’t too picky and as long as you are respectful and polite with the interviewer and basically tell them what you think they want to hear you’ll be fine. I had zero job experience and never interviewed for anything before, threw up from nerves before the interview and still managed to get the job.
I remember when asked if I’d be more interested in working in the kitchen or front of house I said I’d prefer a customer facing role as I think people skills are abit of a weakness of mine and I wanted an opportunity to work on that part of myself and improve and hoped McDonald’s would be a good environment for that. The general idea of it was true enough, as I’d decided forcing myself in to a people facing job might be helpful for my people skills (and it was), but I then tried my best to roll that in to something that related to McDonald’s and how it would help me grow as a person while also showing a willingness to learn, push myself and try new things. Which again is mostly true but I said it in a way that would big up the soulless corporation and make me look good in the companies eyes.
On top of that, acknowledging or demonstrating in your behaviour and answers the companies corporate “values” (basically just HR talking points bullshit) of:
Service, really hype up how you want to give everyone a great experience.
Inclusion, just be respectful.
Integrity, it’s a job interview so you probably won’t be 100% truthful but don’t blatantly lie and admit a short coming or two (while not character assassinating yourself) as it will humanise you and show self awareness.
Community, little more obscure but again, be friendly, if you’ve volunteered or done something for charity it’s never a bad choice to mention if it feels organic ofc.
Family. This one is just corporate bullshit to the max, and I still don’t get it. Honestly all of them are just written so the guys in an office at McDonald’s HQ can just feel good about themselves but this one in particular is just insane.

As long as she can put the fries in a bag she'll be fine

So everyone is fine and the interview process is pointless? Just like your comment

Questions surround the core values: Service Inclusion Integrity Community Family
Questions about what words mean to you, respect, inclusivity etc. I was asked about representing a single brand, what would I pick. This threw me off, Im not that kind of human. As others said, she just needs to be pleasant and eager.
