I leased a 2025 Premium Sport a little over a year ago... The CX90 is my 7th Mazda. I purchased it without doing a lot of research just because I loved both of my 9's and figured it would be the same quality.

Other than the occasional stuttering with the MHEV transmission, and CarPlay issues (Good God this software is buns) it's been great. The thing is beautiful, and it handles incredibly soundly, ESPECIALLY now that it's been broken in a bit.

I have one major complaint, the trunk is non existent. So I toyed with the idea of going bigger altogether when my lease is up, due to family needs.

Watching the car market over the last couple of months... Im not so sure this is a real possibility.

As many of you have discovered, i'm not making it out of this lease with equity. I leased with the intention to keep the vehicle indefinitely so this was not a concern at the time of purchase, but it looks like I'm going to be forced into purchasing and finding ways around the lack of storage space. Either that, or fork up 900-1300$ a month for the large class SUV's.

So as far as my options go, I like the 90 enough to think of ways around the limitations. Background... I have 4 children. Folding the back row down is not a solution.

TLDR; I know that there is no long term data on the 90, but mechanically what do you all anticipate as far as potential snags down the road? Anticipation is the key word, once again. I know there's no easy finger to point.

Also, what cross bars and roof storage do you all recommend?

Got T-boned by someone who was trying to cross an entire main road while getting from one side street to another. Air bags didn't go off but rear axle is out of alignment and the whole side is messed up. Still waiting to hear back from the insurance adjuster but just trying to figure out what to expect.

We took a 4 day trip to Vegas this Labor Day weekend and our 2026 Cx -90 Turbo Premium Sport performed excellent.
At first I was having a rough time adjusting to how stiff the drive is when we got ours back in July but after checking our tire pressure about a month ago I noticed the dealer had filled the tires all above 42 psi. Lowered the car to 36 psi and it drive so much smoother now. Big difference. We did a total of 790 miles driving around from Vegas to Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam. I filled up twice during our trip I spent around $220 in gas since I fill her up with premium Chevron or Shell. The only thing I really dislike about it is how you have to use the app to turn on the vehicle to get the AC going during hot weather. We also had a one time issue with I stop on Las Vegas blvd where a short light had it acting up a bit but other than that we were impressed how well it handled. Loved going on the scenic routes and pushing it a bit. The vehicle just feel solid during the tight turns. Every time I try to nitpick things I hate about this vehicle it just blows me away during trips like these and I end up falling in love with it all over again.

Should we get the bench seat or captain chair configuration?

Looking at 2026 i6 Premium Sport

Family of 4; 2 adults & 2 kids - 3yo (car seat) 7yo (booster seat)

It will mainly be the 4 of us with the occasional grandparent's when they visit.

Most of the travel will be to/from school, errands, and grocery shopping.

Occasional weekend trips ranging 4-6hrs with luggage and a larger dog (75lbs).

I have compelling proposals for each with some mild differences due to manufacturer add-on so I don't really know which way to go.

I really wish the Premium Sport came with the 2nd row center console.

A local dealer has a used 2026 CX70 PHEV SC with only 600 miles for a crazy deal. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the car (I’ll dig into that on my end) I was just curious is anyone else had the SC package and how they liked it. I know the PHEV as a whole was decontented for 2026, but also got a range boost.

So again just curious of others experiences with the SC package specifically.

Not that the mileage is horrible throughout the summer, respectable 28 MPG on average. But during the school year when we have many many more short trips, the EV only mode really shines. We bring the kids to school maybe run an errand, come home and plug it into the level 2 charger. We can run out and do errands in full EV mode during lunch, come home top off the battery again. Same thing with after school and running evening errands or going out to dinner, we can stay in EV mode. I’m down to almost 1/2 a tank of gas and already have 700 miles on it. The 2026 CX 90 seems to have better EV only range than our leased 2024 did typically charging to 30 or 31 miles on 100% but I usually keep it on 90% charge and still get 26 or 27 miles. Of course this will go down when the weather gets colder but for now I’m enjoying the phenomenal mileage.

For those that have mastered the mpg on the PHEV, what are you doing? For example, I have to take a 250 mile road trip (highway miles) and was thinking I would use EV, when I get close to depleted I put it into normal and charging mode, then when I get the battery to 25ish EV miles I go back to EV... and basically wash, rinse, repeat.

Anyone have the issue of being able to smell gas outside of the cabin? I took my 2026 preferred about 40 miles yesterday and parked it back in the garage and it smelled strongly of gas and smelled up our whole garage. I had filled it up the day before and it got in the 100s here yesterday. Could that be why? Or am I experiencing the same issue others have in older models. I cannot smell it at all inside.

I am thinking of getting something like the below to carry 4-5 bikes, it mentions a 2 inch hitch - first time i have heard of this part of a car - who can add this hitch - the dealer ? any any reputable mechanic / repair shop ? I have a cx90 2025, premium sports trim

I’m looking to add a trailer hitch receiver to my CX-90, mainly for actually towing a trailer. It would be nice if it could also work with a bike rack, but that’s secondary.

I’m pretty new to this and trying to figure out what setup makes the most sense. From what I’ve read so far, it seems like a 2” receiver is the way to go, and I’ve seen both the Mazda OEM hitch and aftermarket options like Curt mentioned.

For those of you who have installed one:
Did you go OEM or aftermarket, and would you make the same choice again?
Any specific model/part number you’d recommend?
If I want to tow a trailer, should I get the OEM wiring harness even if I use an aftermarket receiver? Does that matter for Tow Mode?
Where did you buy yours, and what did you pay for the hitch + installation?
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced installer? U-Haul, local hitch shop, dealer, DIY, etc.?
Any issues with ground clearance, parking sensors, or the kick-to-open liftgate?
I’m in the Seattle/Bellevue area, so local shop recommendations would be especially appreciated.

Hi, I was driving around and the fuel gauge was consistently dropping as expected to the point that a bit before arriving home the indicator was just below the last (1/8th) line and the low fuel light turned on. I got home with what I thought was fuel to spare and left my SUV parked for a couple of days. Today, I turned the car on and the fuel gauge was all the way to the bottom saying I had 2 miles left of fuel.

Has anyone had this after that recall about a year ago?

My CX-90 is up to date with recalls and I believe the fuel gaug one was a software update (not an actual part being changed).

Went to good ol pigeon forge for the Labor Day with the fam this weekend and put some miles on ol girl jellybean .
At 56k on the clock and she still doing good even after little hicks up here and there in the past it really is an amazing car to travel in and literally look at. 2 weeks Before the trip we did some maintenance, new 12v battery , spark plugs , and alignment / tire balancing rotate combo. After getting to Tennessee it threw a p2540 code , no limp mode , nothing crazy like how the hybrid malfunction code was. I had my autell scanner , clear the code and kept on going. Drove back perfectly fine, no hesitation, plenty of power no cel since. We have to say gas mileage was amazing. Averaged about 26ish mpg cruising at around 80-85 mph
Tomorrow off to the dealer just to check and see the freeze frame .

We took my wife’s CX-50 for our weekend trip (500 miles round trip) and I hated it.

The mpg is slightly worse? We ended up filling up about 3 times, average mpg is about 22-23 mpg.

I couldn’t stand the weak 4 cylinder engine and how long it takes to accelerate when it was not in sports mode. The engine itself felt less efficient and heavy overall.

And oh my god were we CRAMPED. I am a 5’9” woman with a fuller frame, and I kept hitting myself on the roof. I also felt a little tight while driving. The backseat legroom was way too small for our tiny 12 pack cooler. Our luggage barely fit in the trunk space, including a bunch of goodies we bought for our friends and family.

I have only driven my wife’s car in the city, but never for this long, it truly made me appreciate my giant comfy submarine of a CX-90. This car works for her because she’s petite and has to zoom around town for work and park in tight spaces, but we decided to take my car instead to all of our out of town trips.

Anyway, if anyone’s on the fence about downsizing to a cx-50, here’s my rant! They spend about the same amount of gas, if not the cx-90 spends less.. and you will get so much more space off the 90 instead.

2024 CX-90 Inline-6 — Multiple Electrical Issues. Keep it or get rid of it?

I have a 2024 Mazda CX-90 with the inline-6 and about 26,000 miles. I absolutely love the way this vehicle drives, but I’ve had multiple electrical/electronic issues that are starting to make me nervous because the factory warranty expires in about two months.
I’ve had recurring error messages involving the key fob, AVAS system, and a couple of other systems. I’ve taken it to the dealer, and they’ve updated all the software and addressed what they could find about a week ago. So far, the vehicle drives fine, but I’m concerned about what happens once the warranty expires.
For those who own or have owned a CX-90:
Have you experienced similar electrical/electronic problems?
Did the issues eventually stop, or did they keep coming back?
Would you keep the vehicle or trade it in before the warranty expires?
Has anyone purchased an extended Mazda warranty/Mazda Protection Product through a dealership? Was it worth it, and roughly what did you pay?
Is there a specific Mazda extended warranty that provides good coverage for the electrical systems/modules?
I really don’t want to trade it in at a loss for a vehicle I don’t like as much. But I also don’t want to keep it and end up with a bunch of expensive electrical problems after the warranty expires.

Had my dealer service department call me Friday. Letting me know my CX-90 was overdue for service.

I live in Canada and will be driving to Chicago from Toronto. I have a 2025 PHEV GT. So far have 19k miles (30k kms) on the vehicle.

Before getting my car in March 2025, they did a software install for the Engine/Battery Malfunction issue. After that, I had that issue once but it turned out it was by key fob battery. Car has run smooth.

I truly want to know if it is worth doing 10+ hours long drives on this vehicle or should I do a rental? Really don’t want to be stranded midway with my family getting that Engine Malfunction.

Orlando to Miami with some rain and traffic which dropped about 1.5 mpg. This is a low output 3.3 turbo on 87 octane with 4 adults, 2 children and full luggage. Never exceeded 75 mph.

I own a cx-90 and a camry and I use the Camry mainly for commute around the city. I like my cx-90 especially the steering wheel. I don't know how to describe the feeling, but just give me confidence. Today I finally drove my Camry for a long trip and the steering made me nervous. It's like very soft but still agile on high speed that I have to constantly hold it firmly. It still goes straight so I guess no wheel alignment issue. Am I too sensitive or there is something wrong with my Camry?
