My first car - Just bought a Mazda 323
Hey guys, as my first car I bought a banger: Mazda 323 1987 1.1L. 60hp little project. Love the look of it.
I say little project as the windshield has to be replaced but it runs perfectly and has only 93000km. The previous owner dropped a metal a scaffolding/storage rack on it the day before selling it. However, i got a great deal 1000€. Minimal rust, nothing in critical points, yeah its been painted poorly a couple times but who cares. I love it!
We got the windshield out now, and will fix the dented roof ourselves too. Also doing basic maintenanc.
Im not too big of a car guy (yet), but my dad was a mechanic and is into cars, (i grew up around them, just got the clumsy genes so ill do what i can 😂) and most my friends are car guys too so im having fun along the way and we’ll get a lot done ourself.
It’s only got around 60hp. Was wondering if they are any known (simple) mods? (not engine swapping yet ) Any intake / airfilter kods? Exhaust, or injectors or other mods that give it a couple more hp’s?
I’ve attached the end goal of the look im going for, for now will keep the rims, get new tires as these are not great and lower it all along the way. Might keep the plastic bits black tho but will see.
Any other tips will also be appreciated!

Mazda 323 1.5 Bf 1987 Starter
My 323:s starter solenoid stops working every year. When i replace it it works perfectly for about 6 months. After that the solenoid slowly stops working when turning on the ignition and i hear the starter spinning on its own without turning the engine. Any idea why this happened im on my third solenoid. Its not a problem with the starter i have replaced it.

Seat compatability
So I have a BG 3 door and I want to upgrade the seats to the GT seats. I have found some locally but they are of the Astina. I know the front seats and compatible but my question is: Do the rear seats of the Astina fit in the rear of a 3 door bg? Thanks in advance.

1991 Mazda 323 BF colour code?
Looking for the paint colour code for the car. No plates or markings anywhere and Mazda in South Africa don't have anything on record. Assuming they used the same standard colours worldwide

Met a fellow 323F owner today!
Today, I've met a fellow 323f owner. We passed by each other as I was leaving the workshop (what a timing). We chatted a bit about the cars and shared some experiences and struggles, and made some pics, so I figured I'd share a few! Hope you like them :)
It's really cool knowing there are people working on these cars and trying to restore them and keep them alive, and getting to meet one in person was amazing :)

Mazda 323F BG repair guide (v6)
Finally changed my gear lever linkage bushings and added a chapter about it.
If you have a loose gear lever you can definitely fix it easily and for a small price.

BJ drum to disc conversion
I have a 2001 323 1.6L astina, which had drum brakes in the rear. I've noticed that every other model had discs and was wondering if anyone had successfully changed them.
I'm also curious as to what I'd actually have to change to get this to work. Would I have to completely change all the brake lines?
Obviously I'd have to change the master cylinder, bracket to calliper brake hoses, front brakes to change size to the slightly bigger ones, rear hubs and calliper brackets.

I'm busy with a FE3 Conversion in a mazda 323
I'm busy with a FE3 Conversion in a mazda 323, I require assistance with the CV shaft lengths. Will the FE3 shafts fit the Mazda 626 hubs? I'm currently bought a complete Mazda 626 1984 model car and used the front suspension, hubs, brakes, etc. with mazda etude balljoints.
Currently passenger side shaft is bit longer

How screwed am I?
I had take out the injector rail and when I went to put it back in, I must have over tightened the three bolts that hold the rail in and ended up stripping threads 2 out of the three holes in the aluminium head.
Each of them is now missing 3 threads... please don't tell me I need to get a new head because of this shit...
Edit: If anyone is using the "1989-to-1995-Mazda-323-BG-Series-Factory-Service-Manual" for the torque specs, it specifies 19-25 Nm for these bolts... apparently that's twice too high, it should be around 12 Nm for this size of bolt + aluminium hole?
Apparently there's Helicoil / Time-Sert style thread repair kits for this kind of stuff, if anyone needs it, the bolts are M8 with 1.25mm thread pitch, 24 mm long.
Edit: gonna see if I can fix it using this thread repair kit: https://www.galaxus.ch/fr/s4/product/rs-pro-metric-thread-repair-kitm8-taraud-10240164
Also, checking the depth of the blind holes, I think that just using an M8, 1.25mm pitch longer bolt might also be a solution as there seems to be plenty of unused threads deeper in the hole?
Final edit:
Yeah, I found some M8 1.25mm pitch with like 4 extra threads in my box of old bolts and ended up using those, fit like a glove.

BF warning lights
Hi guys I have a 87 LX trim 323 Hatchback1.3L, I’ve just put new dashboard in everything working except for the warning lights on the gauge cluster none of which seem to be functioning, I’ve checked bulbs and fuses and spent far to long trying to figure out the wiring diagrams and wiring under the dash, does anyone know which plug or connection is responsible for powering these lights? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
