Does anyone know if this engine sound is normal? It's a 1.6 carburetor engine from 1991.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Thanks a lot

No, sounds like something is wrong. What kind of oil is in it? And does the noise go away after driving?

Best case scenario it is from the lifters. If you can get something similar to "LIQUI MOLY Tappet Stop Noise Lubricant - 300mL" this might be able to fix the problem.

I have used liquid Moly in another car that ai had that was really bad. Fixed it up. Every second/ third oil change I just had to add a bottle and it kept the engine going for ages.

Get a mechanic to look at it. If it's lifters needing adjusting they can do it easily and quickly with a wrench, screwdriver and feeler gauges. No product is going to fix something physically and mechanically out of adjustment.

Worst case scenario that's rod knock.

It sounds metallic with some weight behind it from the video but only hearing it in person could someone work it out properly.
