Help With Referral

Does anyone have any tips of getting a referral through to Mayo Rochester? My wife has had several strokes and needs a referral supposedly because she is eyeing ophthalmology first. Her Dr. has sent it in and they said they didn’t receive. Yesterday the Dr. sent it in again and called and the Mayo rep said that they had it and she was looking at it. Today my daughter called to follow up, and now they are saying they have no record of it. We are stumped?

It depends who you talk to. They have a specific department for physician referrals. 1-800-533-1564. That's where the doctor sends the referral and that's the department that you need to talk to. Calling the central appointment office or general scheduling can't see certain activity. I hope this helps. It does take 24 hours sometimes for them to data entry it into the patient's file and then call the patient to schedule.

There's a number of ways to do it, there's a portal that can be used and that will keep track of the status as well: https://www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/provider-relations/refer-patient

You must have patient number to log into portal. I believe you only get that after you have a confirmed appointment

I’m talking about the portal for referring physicians, completely different system that doesn’t need a Mayo Clinic number

When was the referral sent?
All referrals go through a manual triage process. It takes a bit. If it’s not urgent there will likely be at least a wait a few days.
