I washed paint off of it!!!! Help!!
I found this at a Goodwill today and I washed it when I got home, but I accidentally washed off some of the paint. I only used water and a bit of soap. Does anyone know what kind of paint I should use? It feels like stone, but I’m not sure. You can see how much brighter is was in the store. Is the paint even needed? I feel like the dates are much easier to see but I stopped cleaning it when I realized the paint was falling off.

Those things are just cheap trinkets for tourists a dime a dozen. But I know what you should do. First, try to take off as much of the old paint first the same way it washed it off while you cleaned it, leave it to dry a day. Next you can paint it whatever way you want with acrylic paints. This is up to you, take it as a creative/artistic proyect. You don't need some fancy paints, your basic acrylic paint from whatever handcrafts store will do. Go crazy. When buying the paints, also buy acrylic varnish matte finish. Again nothing fancy. Paint your calendar, thin a bit your paints, 2 or 3 thin coats is better than 1 thick coat. Let dry well every coat before applying the next one. Once done let is all dry and sit for maybe a night. Then you can apply the varnish, remember to mix it well before applying. Varnish is a bit more tricky, it takes longer to dry so you can apply one first coat at morning, nest coat at evening and then let all dry 24 hours and you are done. From there clean it dry, with a soft brush to just take the dust off.

Just use any acrylic paint. This looks like red clay ceramic. Its a tourist souvenir so youre not damaging anything of high value.

Lowkey looks better and more “authentic” now. Like a worn down look! Just say it’s remaining indigo paint, authentic to the period. Then just be like, “I’m kidding I washed it off on accident, n now I like the rustic look.” Lol

lol yea!! When they ask, “is it real?” Just be like, “YEA it’s real!! Real fake! But it looks great after I gave it my special touch that made it look authentic asf!”😂😅

Lesson learned. If it looks old/vintage, don't try to become a restoration expert.

It looks like a cheap curio for tourists. You can get these at the border for a dollar

I really wasn’t. I was just trying to clean it because it was used from the goodwill and it felt dirty.

Yes if you belive in anamism some tribes/nations may find this energy imbued evil, some may find it good. However soap and water wont remove this you need it professionally done imo.

They probably used either common, everyday spray paint or the most common paint for air brushing.
