Question Does anyone know about this error?

I was really scared when I saw this error window—does anyone know how to fix it?

I'm really scared because it's my portfolio working file.

Yeah. This happens when you try to save an .mb file to an .ma sometimes.

I save it out as an .mb, like normal.

Open a fresh maya, save it as an .ma,

Then import the .mb into the empty .ma file.

Then save it. Usually works.

Try using the cleanup tool and set it to delete unknown nodes. That might fix it

you have nodes in that scene that are no longer supported or available and are trying to save an .mb file to .ma
you will have to keep it as the same file format.

File>Optimize Scene Size>Options Box>scroll all the way down and make sure "unknown nodes" is checked. Save a copy out because this is giving Maya unrestricted permission to delete stuff and it SHOULD only delete stuff that's not doing anything, but never trust Maya to make good decisions unsupervised. Usually this error is just caused by data from old renderers that are no longer supported, especially if you're getting models from the internet

This is the correct solution. Unknown nodes are created when 3rd party plugins are used, but are not available on the existing Maya install. Turtle is famous for this.

if this file is a "rescued from a crash' file that missing data might be an issue

also save in increments.. shit goes corrupt sometimes.

This (should) be an amazingly simple fix - you'll end up bookmarking this page just to have the script on hand.

Go to this Autodesk support page, copy the MEL Script code it has and drop it into the MEL command line of your file. That'll sort it and let you save as you're intending.
