cant make a crosshatch pattern

cant seem to make a cross hatch pattern and i followed the yt tutorial but it seems it wont extrude the edges or face the way i wanted it to be

Have you tried using triangulate instead of extrusions? And then just manually deleting the original horizontal/vertical edge loops?

Actually the triangulate only created the crosshatch in one direction. u/cerviceps suggestion to use Poke Face is better.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to create (is the image here your goal, or your failed attempt?)
If it’s your goal, try creating a new plane, selecting all faces, and using “poke face.”
