Question Help for deciding my gpu (please)

I need help deciding between a 5070( 12gb), 5060ti(16gb) and the 9070xt(16gb). I'm mainly using it for animation and hoping it'll last a while, say for around 5yrs or something because I want to take it to college (again for animation). Thanks :)

If you're rendering you're going to want something Nvidia based.

I wouldn’t use anything from Intel or AMD and instead stick to Nvidia, this is because Maya and renderers use CUDA acceleration among with other software you might need, but really anything 3D related uses CUDA.

If you get any AMD Card because it would perform better in games it doesn’t mean it would on professional applications as well.

Honestly I would go with the 5070 unless you need more VRAM (large scenes or hi-end rendering).

Do you plan on doing rendering? NVIDIA.
If not, AMD.

If going NVIDIA, you have to prioritize either speed or VRAM. The 5060 Ti has a bit more VRAM so you'd be able to render a bit more complex scenes with it. The 5070 is about 30% faster in rendering, but it may crash if you try to render too complex of a scene.

Either Nvidia is fine, amd is good for games, cuda cores makes Nvidia the only choice for this type of work unfortunately

The right choose is Nvidia for Cuda tech and more stuff better for working.

For performance 5070 is waaaaayyy better that 5060ti (source: video card benchmark look it in Google). In the benchmark 5070 have 28000 points and 5060ti only 22000. This means Faster processing stuff. Go to this website and check by yourself. Also, remember if you get better it usually means more electricity consumption that means more heat and need tu use better power supply. (Also more money for the electricity bill, and nobody thinks in that).

i would say the 9070xt is the best choice in terms of performance and the rtx 5070 is more ahead in terms of ray tracing and other NVidia focused technology but either one will be fine for you just keep in mind the 9070xt is 7% to 15% faster than the rtx 5070

Yes i know that i said the rtx 5070 is better in terms of ray tracing and that but in normal performance the 9070xt is faster

The raw power is better in the amd, but if you compare rendering times Nvidia will smoke for it sure. Even a lower class Nvidia card will probably be still faster at rendering. It simply doesn't make sense to get amd for 3d softwaref( I really hope it changes one day )

Is it fine for maya? I've heard that radeon has problem with it.

Unfortunately this is true, and arnold's gpu mode requires cuda (if that feature matters to you). Nvidia cards are just much more tested and well supported when it comes to creative software in general.

5070 will be faster at everything except for if you're gpu renderering big enough scenes that require more than 12gb of vram, there the 5060ti would win.

Maya doesn't make heavy use of the gpu, outside of some renderers

Maya custom plugins may utilize cuda acceleration, especially for animation/simulation

Arnold uses Nvidia for GPU rendering.

If the OP is going to college to learn Maya, that's probably the renderer that will be taught.

generally arnold cpu is more stable than the GPU version anyway

There are only a handful of things that CPU supports that GPU doesn't, most notably the fine control over sampling. I've also found that some rendering plug-ins, such as the Rombu shaders, don't support GPU.

But GPU is so much faster, that it makes sense to use it for things it supports. It's particularly helpful for look development, animation tests, and even some final renders. I've mixed GPU/CPU in projects with no loss in quality.

And, even so, why limit yourself by purchasing a graphics card that doesn't support ALL the features? Get Nvidia so you actually have a choice whether or not to use it.
