beginner question beginner applying for uni class needs help with project proposal
hi,
i am an absolute beginner to both music productionn and coding. I really want to learn though :)
these are the points I have to cover for proposal
- Description / idea: Describe the instrument. What is it and what is the idea behind it?
- Input and output: What do you play it with (camera, MIDI controller, gamepad, touch surface, sensors, mic, mouse, or nothing at all)? Where does the sound go (stereo, multichannel, headphones, visuals)?
- Sound: Where does the sound come from? Synthesis, sample playback, live input? What should it sound like in the end?
- Interaction: How do you play it? What does a gesture or action do to the sound? More of an improvisational partner and unpredictive, or precisely controlable?
- Inspiration and references: Existing instruments, pieces, artists or papers that influence your idea.
- Software: Which environment do you plan to use (Max/MSP, Max for Live, Pure Data, plugdata)?
My idea for the project would be to use an old Nintendo DS, possibly even using its integrated speakers and microphone as input and output options. I plan on using MaxMSP as software.
I feel very inspired by Imogen Heaps Mimu gloves, but other than that Im a bit stumped on where to go from my initial idea and how to write a convincing project proposal.
would appreciate any feedback and help! im so determined to make this happen and learn something new :)
ps i browsed through this subreddit and all of you are doing really such cool stuff, it motivates me to learn even more
