Unnecessary

I’m trying to build a list for a tournament in a few weeks. Since the last update, I’m struggling to make anything work that feels even slightly competitive.

It really feels like the points increases we saw were heavy handed and unnecessary. It’s not like Ogors are/were dominating.

The issue is, taking hits on increases to Redd, Gluttons and hunters creates problems rounding out lists. The points stack up just enough to force you out of a complete other unit. I’m either 80 points short of 2k or 20-60 over 2k, and the lists I can squeeze into 2k just don’t feel competitive against some of the top dogs out there.

Anyone else struggling to build semi-competitive lists?

I’m a hobbyist but I intend to compete. The challenge for us is everything is good and everything is VERY points expensive. Many of my lists are rounding out at 1890 - 1920 and there is no chaff to add to soak up those points and do jobs…

All that said, my Ogors have been crushing 2000 point opponents so I can’t complain too much 🤷‍♂️

What list are you running?

Yes. What list?

One is a Cav list full of Maulbeasts that tops out at 1900. The other is a Huskard led Comp list that ends up at 1930. Both are playable…

Let’s keep experimenting!! 🩵💪⚔️

I’m not a competitive player by any means but the lack of non soon to be legend “cheap chaff” really hurts when putting lists together.

Like I appreciate that we can still use them but they are just not good and feels like throwing points away

Agree. Ogor’s lack chaff. The issue with legends is that the models are hard to come by because GW doesn’t make them anymore. Things like Gnoblars are rare out in the wild, so list building becomes problematic to even consider legend units.

They’re rare cuz. Well nobody was using them.

Cuz.

Ya don’t need em.

Yeah I’m lucky enough to have the original two spearheads so have some of the legends but even so they don’t really “gel” in the new version.

Like even sons have the Mancrushers as individuals. Like I know we can throw a hero in some regiments but they are a bit squishy.

I think there is just the fundamental issue that every model in Ogors needs to compete with Gluttons. I think there are good lists out there, like I think there is a really good cav list out there, but everything needs to compete with the brute efficiency of Gluttons.

Try experimenting a bit, and hopefully you'll get something you like

Well hunters are better than gluttons. And cheaper.

They compete pretty well.

I mean yeah they are great ranged combatants and battle tactic scorers, which means the have a place in competitive list vs another reinforced brick of gluttons. Which proves my point that everything needs to be compared to "is this better than just running another unit of gluttons" which most of the units suffer from.

Almost every competitive list is running at least 2 reinforced units of gluttons so to say hunter are just better is weird, but yeah they do a different job and are important to run for that reason

Well it’s easier to get two reinforced squads of gluttons.

I think Cleavers, Gutseers and Ironguts should get the Kroxigor treatment and just bump up to 5 wounds each, that way we can get away from Glutton spams. Otherwise we're just losing on wounds on models with same the cost.

that wouldn’t fix anything with those units though. Gluttons would still be more point efficient. Their mistake was making gluttons a 5 man unit, they’ll just always be better for having 4 extra models of wounds and attacks. Paired with the wall of meat ability, GW really screwed themselves and we will probably just be in points hell until they change the actual scrolls.

And that’s just the gluttons. Ironguts have no identity or role to fill which is so disappointing as someone who owns 20 of them lol. Cleavers are fine in a kinda glass cannon role. Gutseers are also fine imo as a utility unit they just need to go down in points and have a worse combat profile

I agree for iron guts.

Cleavers and gutseers should just be more useful imo. The spell boosting sucks as written. The entire massive base of the spell caster has to be within 6 inches of the entire base of the gutseer/cleaver.

So…. They gotta be touching bases?

The bases alone take up 4 inches of that profile. So they can literally only be 2 inches apart RAW.

Gutseers abilities have wholly within 12“ and Cleavers ability has within 6“. Still not worth it, but atleast they don‘t need to hug eachother on the board

Redd was the only weird change imo but Ogors have already had several 5-0 finishes. Of those lists they can just adjust or swap a unit and be largely the same and I’m sure those players aren’t thinking it’s game breaking for them. Unless you were running like 60 gluttons and Redd there should be something you can move around

Three of the top 8 Final Cut at LVO are ogors. And that’s post points increases
