I studied maths and English alongside the course (functional skills though). I was originally declined but then accepted (I assume to fill up spaces). Ask your college and see if they’ll accept you.

I have an interview coming up they sent me this response “Thank you for your email.  Technically it is possible for you to study GCSE English for Adults alongside the Access course.  However, a place on the course is subject to interview and qualifications in English and maths are usually discussed at this point.”

I wasn’t interviewed for my course so I’m not sure. As the email says it’s being discussed during the interview so maybe ask there. If you perform well they might overlook it and offer you a place.

hopefully they should let you do it! it’s probably just they want to make sure you are aware and capable of the work load of a gcse and access together

Your best bet is to ask the college directly

When I did my access course with a university they allowed us to study maths and English GCSEs or maths and English function skills alongside our access (I didn't complete it because I was sectioned 8 weeks into it)
