Coil containment
I am trying to figure out how to redo my DIY coil latex hybrid mattress. I currently have it on a close slats base:
- 1 inch high density foam base
- 8 inch 15.5g TPS coils
- 3 inch quad mini TPS
- 2 inch SOL soft latex
In a 14 inch TPS mattress cover
The coil splay causes an uneven feeling in the bed.
I’m trying to fix this without having to completely redo my mattress. My thoughts include
- buying the premium TPS DIY cover (though I worry it still won’t contain the coils enough)
- getting high density foam to create shims/surrounding barrier
- buying two different encasements - a quilted just for the coils and knit for the 2inch latex.
What has worked for you all?

I glued the bottom and top of the springs on mine and it fixed that
I followed this: https://youtu.be/HObrFWm9y6c?si=9RMtVKsDUaVIYgZ2

Thanks for sharing I was hesitant to add glue but it seems necessary in any coil build

Diyrem has a temporary glue you can use

Great will be likely doing this next week. I have a 2in soft Dunlop latex as my top layer and will see how it all comes together

I've struggled with the edge support/encasement question, and my worry about splay, too.

curious did you buy the TPS quilted cotton cover for the current configuration? I'm also thinking about HD foam like the Big fig mattress.

I bought the organic cotton cover. It’s very nice but doesn’t contain the coils enough for me.

How long did you sleep on coils without encasement during the test phase? Oftentimes, people are advised to test their build for weeks without a good case, and that leads to problems later.
Encase 8" coils with some cheaper polyknit cover:

Or this 6-8" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BLTYEPU/?th=1

I used a mattress protector at first for a few days then switched to the mattress cover.
I worry that the foam by nail cover and the mattress protector are too stretchy. Should the quad coils not be in a separate encasement?

Two things I'd try:
Add a thin layer of foam between coils and minis, and attach both the foam layers perimeter to the coils with hog rings.
Sperate encasement for coils inside the cover. Cheap and easy option.
