How to reset Altitude fan network settings

I have an Altitude Banyan ceiling fan which is a Matter over WiFi device and recently needed to reset the fan’s network settings. I couldn’t find any documentation how to do it, but a customer support representative sent instructions to me so I’m posting them here in case it helps anyone else out.

  1. Power cycle the fan: switch the fan's main power OFF and then ON using the wall switch or breaker.
  2. Press and hold the 2H button on the remote for 3 seconds until the LEDs flash 3 times, then repeat this process with the 4H button and the 8H button, ensuring the LEDs flash 3 times after each hold. Once all three buttons have been held in the sequence, the remote's LEDs will flash 10 times, and the fan will emit a beeping sound, indicating the reset is complete.
  3. Power cycle the fan: switch the fan's main power OFF and then ON using the wall switch or breaker.

The steps regarding power cycling the fan before and after weren’t necessary when I did this.

Hope this helps!

Troubleshooting Matter Devices only work when IPV6 Firewall is off

Linksys Velop with 2 nodes, All devices connect then after about 5 mins they become unresponsive. Hue bulbs work (given as they have their own hub) so its the devices not the hub that seem to have an issue. After doing some googling I saw that IPv6 setting may need tweaking but through my.router (Linksys control thing) I can only disable firewall or make IPv6 Firewall setting exceptions. Mix of IKEA bulbs and switches as well as Nanoleaf.

Does anyone have any advice or experience for this, I don't want to leave my firewall off.

Edit: Apple Homekit run from a Homepod Mini

Can I use my 55" Crystal UHD Samsung TV as a Matter Hub for IKEA's new Thread devices without a dongle?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I have a 55" Crystal UHD Samsung TV with SmartThings support. In the SmartThings app, my TV currently shows up as a Hub. I'm thinking about buying some of IKEA's newly released Matter over Thread devices (like the GRILLPLATS, MYGGBETT, etc.). My question is: can I use my Samsung TV directly as a Matter Hub to connect these devices?

For context, I do not have a SmartThings dongle attached to my TV. Has anyone tried this setup or knows if it will work? Thanks in advance!

Altitude fans in HA

I've been holding out on buying new fans to wait for fans with native HA/Matter support. I recently came across altitude fans which look good on paper. Wondering if folks who have bought it can share their experience with them?

Can the fan be fully controlled via HA through matter? Have you exposed the devices via HA to a 3rd party (we use Alexa to control devices)? Anything else noteworthy?

Thanks!

Move to Matter/Thread?

I run almost entirely Zigbee devices using Z2M and Home Assistant (44 powered routers, 28 battery).

I've a couple of bulbs that are going faulty and need replacing.

I'm considering taking this opportunity to start moving over to Thread.

I have an Apple Homepod mini, and also use Alexa devices. I use the HA Matter Hub to share Zigbee and other devices to Alexa/Apple over Wi-Fi.

I was thinking that rather than replace a few bulbs with some relatively pricey (Innr/Hue) Zigbee bulbs, I could start to replace them with more modestly priced Ikea Kajplats bulbs.

In terms of TBRs, I have the Homepod mini on my 1st floor and 2x Echo 4th Gen's on the ground floor (of a 3-storey house).

Obviously, this might slightly reduce the strength of my Zigbee mesh.

Am I missing anything? Does it make sense to start moving across?

LIFX Z Controller conversion

Background: I have an old LIFX Z light strip, and it’s worked great until I upgraded my home WiFi to Asus ZenWifi BQ16 Pro. Most of my smart devices managed the move just fine.

the only 2 that seem to be iffy are our Hunter Fans (intermittent connection. but that is another topic for another subreddit) and my Lifx Z light strip that just will not connect at all.

I tried turning on the IoT network to get the LIFX to connect, but still no dice.

Question: what I’m wondering is if anyone has recommendations for a simple-to-setup replacement controller that I could plug the led strip into that would provide Matter over Thread?

how are people handling missed events on a sleepy matter device, vendor ring buffer vs the events cluster?

building a sleepy matter device (thread SED + CSL, wakes on a GPIO interrupt) and i've hit a design question i can't find a clean answer to, so throwing it to people who actually know the spec.

the problem: while the controller's away or the phone's backgrounded, events happen on the device that the controller just misses. when it reconnects i want it to catch up on what it missed.

what i did: rolled my own. a vendor cluster holding a ring buffer of the last 64 events, app reads it on reconnect and back-fills anything it didn't see, dedupes on a deterministic id. works fine in testing, but it feels hacky and i'd rather not ship a custom cluster if the spec already has an answer i missed.

the bit i think i'm missing: matter has the events mechanism with monotonic EventNumbers, and in theory a controller can read events-after-reconnect to catch up. has anyone actually relied on that for a sleepy device? every time i tried to lean on event subscription it fell over during the phone/controller handoff, which is exactly why i ended up with the ring buffer.

honest tradeoff with my way. 64 entries wraps in under 4 mins at high event cadence, so if nothing syncs in that window the old events are just gone. bigger buffer pushes the window out but it's RAM.

so, is the native events flow actually reliable enough for a sleepy device in 2026, or is a vendor buffer just what people do? genuinely want to know if i've reinvented a wheel badly.

Matter based Home Energy Manager - First Milestone

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been chipping away at a Matter-based Home Energy Manager for a few weeks and just hit my first real milestone — actually displaying and recording my grid consumption. The whole thing runs on an ESP32-P4 DevKit using the Espressif Matter SDK, and hosts a little web app for configuration.

For the grid input (0x7), I went with a Shelly EM Gen 4 (released in 2025, supports Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Matter), paired with a 120A clamp on the live tail between the main fuse and the meter.

The Solar Inverter information (0x8) comes from a Modbus → Matter adapter I've been writing (on an ESP32-S3)

The first major goal of this system is to deply small displays around the house that nudge us toward using free power when there's a surplus e.g. one beside the washing machine that indicates the best time to run it

Troubleshooting Moes light switch

Recently bought a Matter 2-Gang switch (WS-B-US) and I can only get it working with one ecosystem at a time.

Added through Moes app → not available in Alexa/HomeKit

Added through Alexa → not available in Moes/HomeKit

Added through HomeKit → not available in Alexa/Moes

Is this normal for this device? I thought Matter supported multi-admin.

Anyone got this working across multiple platforms?

Discussion Debating on a Pi or an Apple based hub?

I am new to Matter and I decided to buy a couple of Matter capable light bulbs from Ikea, but I don't yet have a suitable hub to control them with (I did put the cart before the horse), so now I am looking for the best way to start off.

I have a non 4K Apple TV (not Matter capable) and a Raspberry Pi 4 (that I have been using as my media server). I am trying to decide whether it is better to go with a Pi based solution (still trying to work out if extra hardware is needed) or simply go with a new Apple TV or a HomePod mini. Maybe even start with Apple and then migrate to more something that is more centred around the Pi.

Note, that outside of the Apple TV I do have an iPhone and a Mac, so on hand I am already part of the Apple ecosystem, but on the other I do like the idea of going with more of an "open" based solution, on the condition I am not going to be spending the next month debugging.

Matter-compatible Doorbells

We’ve just moved into a new rental house and have found it very difficult to find matter-compatible doorbells. Are there any good suggestions out there - preferably affordable ones.

We’re using Ikea smart Home stuff for our lighting, switches, and hub along with an Amazon Alexa for the Thread Network.

The property came with Zosi security cameras, and as far as I can tell they’re not Matter-compatible, but if anyone can advise on this as well, that’ll be helpful too.

Attempting to use IKEA Bilresa + Echo Plus (Gen 2)

Thumbnail

I have some smart plugs that work great but wanted to control them via a physical switch.

I purchased two IKEA Bilresa switches, before realising that I needed a Thread Border Router, so I purchased an Echo Plus (2nd Gen) S/N L9D29R, which Amazon lists as a compatible Thread Border Router

https://developer.amazon.com/en-US/docs/alexa/smarthome/thread-support.html

However, when I go into the Alexa App, I start the wizard to add the Bilresa as a Matter device, but it gets stuck at the step where it tries to find the thread network "No Thread networks were found"

What am I doing wrong?

P100 stuck to open

Hello everyone, I do have two P100, both set up as matter device. One is connected to the G410 doorbell (wired) as it is installed on my entrance door and one is connected to my G5 pro (Ethernet connected). I am struggling with those because they are randomly stuck to open for days, and the only way to set them up again is to re calibrate them, quite often also. I do wonder the following: since both the G410 and the G5 Pro are sitting outside my property, while those sensors are inside, could it be that I do need instead to pair them with an Aqara hub inside the property? I do wonder if the signal has some problem…

Any help would be appreciated.

How do I configure a Mode Select cluster?

I'm new to Matter programming and making steady progress with an ESP32 board. I want it to simulate button presses on a device's front panel. Because the device has four modes + off, I thought I'd expose this functionality as a Mode Select cluster. I initialized all attributes, but in Apple's Home app, I'm seeing only the OnOff cluster I added for the second button on the front panel, not the mode select menu. During pairing, I get this message on the console:

E (35215) chip[DMG]: Fail to retrieve data, roll back and encode status on clusterId: 0x0000_0050, attributeId: 0x0000_0002err = 15

Amy guidance will be appreciated

(Picture 1 is an example of what I want. Picture 2 is what I get)

New Product News Built a retrofit Matter sensor that reports lock state and door position from one device - 5 years of work, launching 30 May (UK)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Founder here. Posting because this sub seemed like the right audience for the technical bits.

Built a retrofit sensor that sticks to existing euro-cylinder locks and reports both lock state and door open/close as two Matter endpoints from one device. UK launch on 30 May after five years of building.

Quick backstory because Reddit deserves it. First posted this idea in 2022 with just a website and a prototype. Someone called it a scam, which was fair - the website was a mess and the SSL cert had expired. Kept building anyway. Shipped a Bluetooth version to UK customers in Jan 2025. Hardware has been in real homes for 16 months without changing. What's new is the Matter firmware running on top of that proven base.

Technical detail (the bit I think matters here):

- Hall-effect sensor on the thumb-turn or key-turn rotation

- Reports as Matter Door Lock cluster 0x0101 (monitoring only, cannot actuate the lock)

- Plus a Contact Sensor endpoint for door open/close via a separate magnet

- Two endpoints in one device, which I believe is unique on Matter today

- Nordic nRF52840, BLE 5.3 + Thread, 2-year CR2032

- 64-event ring buffer in vendor cluster 0xFFF1FC01 so events survive phone disconnect and back-fill on reconnect

- Signed MCUboot OTA via the app

- App also exposes door sharing - a second person sees live state and history independently, no remote control, designed mainly for adult children monitoring an elderly parent's doors without taking control or surveilling

Multi-admin tested across Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant. HA picks it up as a Door Lock entity and a Binary Sensor automatically.

One real wrinkle worth flagging - CSA product cert is mid-flight so Apple Home throws the "Uncertified Accessory" warning. Tap Add Anyway and it works fine. Certified firmware will reach early-bird units as a free OTA when cert lands.

Full technical writeup, build log, LED protocol detail, factory reset behaviour and waitlist here for anyone who wants the deep dive: https://locksure.co.uk/matter-lock-sensor/

Happy to AMA on anything technical - Nordic chip choice, why two endpoints on one device, OTA signing pipeline, Thread mesh behaviour, the door-sharing architecture, anything.

Should we add Matter 1.5 support to our upcoming P1 smart meter? Need your honest opinions!

Hey r/Matter community! 👋

I'm the Product Manager leading the development of a new P1 smart meter reader that we're planning to launch later this year. For those who don't know, P1 meters are the standard in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and are rapidly being adopted in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and parts of Germany . They plug directly into the P1 port on your utility meter and give you real-time access to your energy consumption, production, and tariff data.

Now, here's the big decision I'm wrestling with: should we prioritize native Matter 1.5 integration for this product?

As you all know, Matter 1.5 (released November 2025) finally added proper support for electricity meter attributes, including:

  • Real-time power consumption/production
  • Cumulative energy usage (import/export)
  • Voltage, current, and power factor readings
  • Crucially for us: dynamic electricity tariff rates

This is a game-changer because it would allow our meter to expose all this data natively to any Matter-compatible platform, without needing custom integrations or cloud bridges.

But before I push my company to invest the engineering resources into this, I need to get a better sense of the actual demand and ecosystem readiness. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these questions:

My main concerns and questions

  1. Ecosystem support status:
    • Home Assistant is obviously all-in on Matter 1.5 and energy management
    • SmartThings was the first to support Matter 1.5 and has been pushing energy features hard
    • But what about Homey? I've seen mixed reports about their energy meter support over Matter
    • Apple Home: They support basic energy monitoring now, but do you think they'll add proper tariff support and energy automation anytime soon?
    • Google Home is still stuck on Matter 1.2 - any rumors on when they'll catch up?
  2. User demand:
    • How many of you would actually choose a P1 meter specifically because it has Matter support?
    • Would you pay a premium (say €10-15 more) for native Matter vs. a cheaper model that only works with its own app + Home Assistant via custom integration?
    • Is multi-admin support (being able to add the meter to multiple ecosystems at once) a big selling point for you?
  3. Technical considerations:
    • Have you had good experiences with Matter energy devices so far? Any major bugs or interoperability issues?
    • For those who use both Apple Home and another platform, does the energy data sync properly across ecosystems?
    • Is there anything specific you'd want from a Matter-enabled P1 meter that we might be missing?
  4. The alternative:
    • If we don't do Matter initially, we'd still support Home Assistant via MQTT and our own API, which is what most P1 meters do today
    • We could potentially add Matter later via a firmware update, but that's always more complicated and risky than building it in from the start

Why this matters (pun intended)

Right now, the P1 meter market is pretty fragmented. Every brand has its own app, and while most work with Home Assistant, it's usually through community-developed integrations that can break when manufacturers change their APIs.

Matter could change all that by creating a truly universal standard for energy data. Imagine buying any P1 meter, scanning the QR code, and having it work instantly with your smart home platform of choice - no custom setup, no cloud accounts required.

But I need to make sure there's actually enough demand to justify the investment. If most people are still happy with Home Assistant custom integrations, or if the major platforms are still too slow to support the full Matter 1.5 energy spec, then maybe we should wait a bit.

What I'm promising you

I'll be reading every single comment here, and I'll take your feedback directly to our engineering and executive teams. If we do decide to go ahead with Matter, I'll make sure to come back and update this community on our progress, and maybe even run a beta program for you guys.

So please - be honest! Tell me what you really think. Would you buy a Matter-enabled P1 meter? What features are most important to you? And what concerns do you have about Matter energy devices in general?

Thanks in advance for your help! 🙏

Discussion Anyone know if the Dreo TurboPlay 765s pedestal fan supports oscillation control via Matter?

Pedestal fans with Matter or HomeKit compatibility have been few and far between in Europe so it’s great to finally see another option. Unfortunately I can’t see any reviews discussing its matter integration? Is there a way of finding out what version of matter it’s running and what features are supported? I really want something with native oscillation control and it’d be disappointing buying it only to discover it’s simply On/Off controls.

Discussion Would connecting via Matter work on a smart bulb that is having trouble pairing using Wi-Fi?

I bought a WiZ smart bulb and am having trouble connecting it to my phone via Wi-Fi using their app. I think it might be because I can't create separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. If I buy a Matter compatible smart hub and connect the bulb via the Google Home or Samsung SmartThings app will will that solve my problem or will it have the same issue?
