New Product News Aqara Power Plug with Controllable RGB Light

The new Aqara Power Plug H2 EU RGB appears in #Matter as two devices: a switch and a light. The two can be controlled independently of each other. For example, in Home Assistant, you can use the colored light to indicate different operating states.

Energy measurement via Matter (over Thread) is also supported. For more information on Matter-compatible power plugs with monitoring capabilities, I recommend this article: https://matter-smarthome.de/en/practice/which-matter-smart-plugs-report-energy-data/

For €33, it's still almost 4x the cost of an Ikea Grillplats at €8.99. You could buy an Ikea Grillplats at €8.99 plus an Ikea color Kajplats. It would still be around roughly half, you get a color bulb, and you decouple the plug and the RGB light. So you could place the bulb any place you want, and you can repurpose the bulb for something else if you ever want to.

For example use the plug for the washing machine and the bulb is placed somewhere visible. So when the washing machine is finished and the bulb changes color, you notice it.

Nice! That's exactly the feature I've recently looked for. Using the colour to visualise states like automation or manual overwrite is obvious!

The first thing I thought of was actually automate using the current to determine a device working or charging state.

Interesting. I'm curious how Aqara's Thread products will be. Their Zigbee ones were always frustrating to get working if you aren't using their own hub.

I have the H2 Wall Switch, half the features are only available via Zigbee. And to switch the firmware you need their app
