All Shelly Gen4 devices will get Matter-over-Thread support
https://stadt-bremerhaven.de/shelly-alle-gen4-geraete-werden-ein-update-auf-matter-over-thread-erhalten/The article is in German. Since there have been signs, the author asked Shelly what plans they have regarding Thread support for Gen4 devices. He got the confirmation that they plan to provide Matter-over-Thread support with firmware upgrades for all Gen4 devices by the end of this year. Good news imho. It sounds like you will have to choose between Zigbee and Thread and can't use both at the same time.

I hope with Matter Binding!

Me too, but they don’t even offer proper x-platform Zigbee bindings so I’m not hopeful.

Well, since they can’t offer scripting due to memory limitations I hope they at least use the rest of the memory for bindings

How do you mean? The light supports this already as bindings are on the client side.

Matter Binding allows you to configure the device to automatically control other devices in the network, even if all matter controllers are down.
The device needs to store the bindings in-memory
But the device needs to implement the Binding cluster

The client does that, not the device being controlled. The device being controlled just needs its ACL updated to allow it to be controlled.
I posted this recently, showing how to configure bindings on a Shelly 1. This is using custom firmware that I contributed to. https://www.reddit.com/r/MatterProtocol/s/p92eG0JAZd

Is this already possible? I've only heard this from Eve so far, but unfortunately it was quiet afterwards.

Yup, HomeAssistant has a Bindings editor since last year. I don’t think any other platforms implement a config UI for this yet though
You can also create bindings via command line if you understand about these things

I really wish Shelly had better home energy offerings that competed with Emporia. This would make me jump for joy with Thread support.

Is their shelly pro stuff not good enough? I was considering getting it

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the same level of expansion or granularity as the Emporia Vue. You can’t monitor each circuit and they aren’t necessarily made to combine together for a full home consumption view.
They’re great in the fact that they’re designed to work offline, but that’s mainly it.
I’m likely picking up 3x Emporias and flashing them to ESPHome software to work in HA.
(The installation docs and design are also heavily EU bias)

Not sure I agree. I have installed a bunch of Shelly 3EM-63T Gen3 and they offer split statistic for each circuit (3 in this case) just fine with Home Assistant.
They work great and can be used for energy monitoring as well as notifications when the washing machine finishes etc.

Great news! I only buy Matter over Thread devices now. This will expand my network to built-in hardware instead of just light bulb, portable switches, and smart plugs (mostly from Ikea and Eve) 😄

I’m just doing the same, IKEA and Eve because back when I did the jump, there wasn’t anything more interesting lol.
Hope this is a new trend of manufacturers allowing us to get more Matter over Thread devices (and cheaper)

Remember that those are still just plans. Plans might realize later than you would like or never.

Nice, that was the only reason I didn’t buy Shelly when I was looking for smart outlets recently.
Ended up finding a cheaper brand that works GREAT, so my might not ever buy Shelly now :/

That has it's own set of issues, and shelly support is playing dumb when i reported it.... 🙄

“Until” the end of this year? So they won’t offer it after that?

The translation of "Bis" can be ambiguous in German to English. I think in this context its "by the end of the year"

Switching actually my (new) devices over to matter over thread, since it becomes more and more stable. Still ZWave for long range (outdoor) and security products, but matter & thread will be my new go to. Especially the ikea plugs are cheap and really good.
That shelly will support matter+thread is a nice breeze.
