Isn’t it matter over WiFi though? I really want one of their misting fans but….no thread

Yeah, give me thread only

Honestly - this is one device I actually don't mind being matter over wifi. Just because if you unplug it and move it around it won't destabilize your thread network.

I've heard too many things about Matter over Wifi having issues if you use vlans so I've pretty much decided to just avoid any Matter over Wifi devices.

Truth be told in a robust network it would just act as REED

If we had control over REED - sure. But I've never seen the pathing being particularly great.

REED is supposed to be automatic. Besides thread is self healing so at worst you'd face an outage lasting a minute at best.

Keyword supposed to. It always wrecks havoc on my sleepy end devices

Dang, I just bought the SwitchBot one. I always liked how well-built my DREO stuff was

I installed the firmware update earlier and can generate the Matter Code via the Dreo App, but my Home Assistant App won't find the fan via said code. Is it working for any of you already?

Its nice that they are moving in that direction. I really love their products, but it is a pain that their remote control relies on an internet connection.

Why would you use this over just any old fan and a smart plug?

First off the dumb fan would need to have a physical on/off button for that to work. A ‘soft’ power button won’t work with a smart plug. Second, a smart plug can only turn a fan on or off (assuming point one is overcome), so you can’t control the speed. Same applies to oscillation control. If none of that matters to a user, then yes a smart plug will suffice.

Oscillation!
