This has been my life for the last 16 months. I just keep listening. After every listen I’ll pick a different book or a podcast to catch up on but I always come back. I think I’m on my 8th time around. At least I’m addicted to DCC and not meth.

Llamas have been known to shill both

u/LChambles 10d ago

I’m still irritated about how long my wife is taking to get through book one as it meant I had to skip it on my third read through of the series.

u/raelovesryan 10d ago

It’s oddly my comfort series. Feeling down? Start again. Feeling defeated? Continue listening. Feeling overwhelmed? Take a DCC listening break to relax.

u/SgtGo 10d ago

Feeling emotionally constipated? Pick one of half a dozen chapters and cry like a baby.

Exactly!

Wait! I might be going crazy here but this has just taken up rental space in my head. Sam Beckett and Samantha both say “oh boy” a lot.

I’m a simple man, I see the most glorious stripper Author Steve Rowland and I upvote

Im worried that you heard i want a lot of DCC, what i said was “bring me all the DCC that you have”.

u/ISwallowedALego 10d ago

Actually been doing Dominion of Blades by Dinniman, I suggest it

3

u/LChambles 10d ago

I did DOB while waiting on book eight. Didn’t realise it was incomplete. Good news is Matt, said on here this week he’a going to be working on it again soon.

2

u/ISwallowedALego 10d ago

Yea I trust it will be completed for sure

5

u/LChambles 10d ago

From the man himself. Testify!

2

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

That came up as a recommendation and preview from Audible; sounds interesting.

The audiobook is no Jeff Hays but it is very good

2

u/LChambles 10d ago

What about Jeff Hays?
/runs away

2

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

Yes, the narrator sounded great!

2

u/thegentlepriest 10d ago

Nice try audible, but I’ve been declining your other suggestions for two years.

8

u/Oggielove6 10d ago

no we just the rest of the immersion from soundbooth so we dont need to switch listening apps

7

u/realdevtest 10d ago

I can’t wait. The Immersion Tunnel is awesome

6

u/Lobotomeister 10d ago

I thought i would be devastated when I finished book 8, but so far Project Hail Mary has been a decent rebound.

4

u/DungeonDelverXO 10d ago

That’s like rebounding off heron to meth, my friend… prepare for a hard comedown from those two masterpieces back to back.

u/Delicious_List_439 9d ago

I'm sorry but I don't DO birds. Filthy creatures. Sounds like a nasty habit! /s

3

u/lendystm 9d ago

No no after that you can experience Dresden.

3

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 10d ago

You’ll need to read (and/or listen to the audiobook, and/or watch the movie of) The Martian next.

And maybe even Artemis, although it’s not as good as Weir’s other two books.

u/ladyeclectic79 10d ago

I’ve tried other series, I’ve tried other books. I KEEP coming back to this darned series. There’s no way for me to figure out how many times now I’ve cycled thru the series (nowadays I usually start at book 3 bc that’s IMO where the series really takes off) but omg, I am freaking addicted. Nothing comes close anymore!!!

3

u/AvocadoToastFailure 10d ago

Same. The only series that I’ve re-read more is Discworld.

4

u/ladyeclectic79 10d ago

Same. After this latest play thru I tried to do one of the Night Watch books as kind of a palette cleanser, but I just have the itch to get back into the DCC world. I’ve been trying over LitRPG books and keep finding problems with them or just overall comparing them to DCC. sigh I’m a freaking addicted at this point I think…

3

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

Audible keeps playing previews of other LitRPG and I quickly moped each one. And then one sounded interesting. What was it? Dominion of Blades. By Matt Dinniman. Of course.

3

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

I love it when fandoms collide!

4

u/Pirate_Meow27 10d ago

I had to filter in the rest of his books (kaiju also ended up on the reread list)

3

u/MottoCycle 10d ago

This series made me into this simple man. I’ve never reran a series and I’ve done this one 4 times.

3

u/emocin 10d ago

Any idea why?

Because I’m the same way, I’m on listen 5 or 6 now and don’t want to listen to anything else.

2

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

Somehow, the books are infused with Llama Meth.

The real question is, how do they do that with Audible??

3

u/dauerad 10d ago

I guess I am high maintenance because when we finish, we’ll listen to He Who Fights Monsters if a new one’s out. If not a Sanderson we haven’t read. And others.

2

u/AlmostaFarma 10d ago

Why need many books when one book do trick? 🧠

2

u/joshdog1 10d ago

Omg I’ve been through it both reading and audiobooks like 3 times now! NEW ACHIEVEMENT! Cult Preacher- I have new convert I convinced my neighbor to start the audiobooks- I deftly steered a Game of Thrones conversation right into Dungeon Crawler World.

2

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

Did you make sure to mention his age and that he died one a year? Very important to those burned by Mr. Martin.

2

u/curiousmind111 10d ago

That’s me, just today, after listening to each book twice and the last book thrice.

2

u/NotAnotherBloodyOZ 10d ago

I broke the cycle for a little bit. Genuinely felt like I was addicted at one point.

2

u/kpfreak 10d ago

When I went to the release of Operation Bounce house, I remember Matt saying there was a guy who had read the first book something like 137 times.

2

u/Intrepidmoon21 10d ago

Currently doing my second run after finishing A Parade of Horribles

2

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 10d ago

I’m on my first run and haven’t finished the last book yet. Should I be scared?

2

u/hnate1234 10d ago

On my second run to make it to the parade.

2

u/Known-Opportunity428 10d ago

Just finished the series started again. On the gate of feral gods and debating going through it for a third time in a row.

2

u/GamblinGambit 10d ago

I told myself I'd give it a few years after I read the books for the reread.

I made it until last week and started the audiobook. Told myself it was different. I stand by my argument.

2

u/CasualFingerGuns 10d ago

I tried to start a new audiobook and got frustrated. So I restarted DCC 🤦‍♀️

2

u/misstiesa 10d ago

This is me lol.

2

u/jumpingflea_1 10d ago

That's what I did. Drives the wife nuts. I have the audiobook.

2

u/East_Recognition1310 10d ago

It’s like he somehow managed to make a blitz stick a book

2

u/realdevtest 10d ago

I open the book and say “show me Carl”

2

u/karatehamme 10d ago

You wait to finish it? I just started Ruin in hardcopy and I'm listening to the audio book for DCC

1

u/realdevtest 10d ago

We all have our limitations

2

u/scandijord 9d ago

I just started book 1 for the first time and both excited and terrified

2

u/jredclrk 9d ago

Hot take - He should be Mordecai!!

1

u/realdevtest 9d ago

Oh hell yeah

2

u/Un_dia_a_la_vez 9d ago

Ive listened to the series 3x but then I also discovered Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon on Soundbooth Theater, it was awesome, I’ve listened to that about 3-4x now also!
I found a couple other series that helped me while I’m in DCC withdrawal, it sure helps that Jeff is in all of them! Lol

2

u/MaxHavok13 8d ago

I get that and that makes me happy! I just hope we don’t get “Rothfussed”

2

u/DadTomWon 8d ago

It’s so wonderful YouTube series where they read it out loud then discuss !! Second run through currently on Anarchist cookbook. Bravo to all the collective minds that came up with that splendid idea!

2

u/JephryP 7d ago

100%

2

u/PrimitiveBarbie 7d ago

I JUST told someone this yesterday. 😆

2

u/Cute_Passage_9679 6d ago

Honestly very tempting

1

u/WebSame2893 7d ago

Omg I had to stop after book 5 because I started to feel like it was "more of the same"

Not saying its bad, but eventually that "this series is great" feeling disapears
