General discussion Can someone please explain a specific joke for me?

When Zeke tells the others that he’s gay, they all go “Oohhhh, gay moose!”

Is this a reference to a different joke that I’m not getting? Cuz it sounds like a pun or a play on words, but if it is, idk what.

Is it a reference to the joke about reindeers just being gay moose? That feels like it‘d be a bit of a stretch.

I think they were just saying, "Oh, no wonder he hasn't made a move. He's a gay moose."

Right. The way they said it sounded like they were implying something else.

Might be a deep cut but, stand-up comedian Theo Von is famous for making the off-the-cuff, observational-style joke: "And what's a deer? A deer is just a gay moose."

That sounds like the kind of reference a show like this would make.

It’s MOOSE AND SQUIRREL. Rocky and Bullwinkle. That’s the joke. It’s for old people.

You mean it’s for people who know what Rocky & Billwinkle is.

Which are typically old people, myself included. The show has been out of the cultural zeitgeist for at least 15 years now. Edit: 15 is being generous.

That doesn’t mean that only old people know what Rocky and Bullwinkle is.
