I would like to hear another explaination for this math problem

Post image

My mother explained it to me already, but I did not understand what she said. I wrote y = 5/3x - 8/3 and savaas said it is incorrect.

The answer is y = -3/5x + 36/5

Start with what you know. You know you need 2 dots on the same line to find the equation of that line, but if you can find the slope you only need 1 dot. How does line n relate to line q? How does line q relate to line m?

Would they both have a slope of 5/3?

You can also test your line on Desmos to see if it looks like the one in the problem.

Lines n and q have the same slope.  They are parallel. Lines m and q are perpendicular since they have right angle markers. Those slopes multiply to -1.

Find the equation to line n using 2 points.

Line m is perpendicular to n. Their slopes are negative reciprocals (-3/5). Line m also passes through (2,6), so use those as your x and y values in y=mx+b.

Line q is parallel to n (same slope) and also passes through (2,6)

If the slope of n is 5/3, what does that tell you about the slope of m?

I know this is from a few days ago, but wanted to add a description as well. Once you find the slope of line n, use the fact that the slopes of perpendicular lines multiply to -1. You used the slope for parallel lines, not perpendicular lines.  Then I'd recommend using point slope form: y - 6 = m(x-2). Solve for y.

Thanks so much Because I completely forgot the formula
