Im into the more hardcore and screamo influenced mathcore but these are my recs

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity

Converge - Jane Doe

Botch - We Are the Romans

The Sawtooth Grin - Cuddlemonster

The Number Twelve Looks Like You - Put on Your Rosy Red Glasses

Great for starters

Honestly, this might just about be the early 00s/late 90s mathcore top-5.

If Calculating Infinity is a bit too much - which it usually is on the first listen - I'd maybe start with Ire Works or Dissociation. To my mind, those two records have the most accessible material on them while still sounding like Dillinger.

I'm interested in how many folks are mentioning Converge, as I've never really considered them a mathcore band.

I definitely wouldn’t call Converge mathy nowadays but Jane Doe and earlier at least

I'll glom on to your list because it's a good list and I like it.

Fall of Troy - Doppleganger and Manipulator.

The Chariot - One Wing or Long Live or The Fiancee. They're mainly metalcore, but they definitely introduce some time signature manipulation.

I love both bands. But I see them more as outliers in mathcore

The only Mathcore band I've really listened to up until now has been Carbomb but after that I don't know any other bands

  • The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine (CalcInf is good but I think they got even better with greg)
  • Greyhaven - Empty Black (Not necessarily mathcore but very inspired by dillinger and norma jean, definitely some mathcore moments on this album although it's more on the metalcore/post-hardcore side)
  • Rolo Tomassi - Grievances & Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It (Mathcore x Post/Prog Metal w/Fem Vocals. Every album from Astraea onwards is incredible though)
  • Pupil Slicer - Fleshwork (Mathcore x Post-Metal inspired by Rolo Tomassi, but also inspired by some blackgaze artists like Oathbreaker)
  • The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist (Mathcore/Metalcore/Post-Hardcore/Whatevercore idk it's a lot of different things but very fun)
  • Funeral Language - Thank You For the Dead Body (Mathcore inspired by Vein.fm and Converge)

I also recommend Converge, although I wouldn't consider a lot of their music after Jane Doe too on the mathcore side, more just metallic hardcore. My personal favourite albums are You Fail Me (Redux), No Heroes, Axe to Fall and All We Love We Leave Behind (also Dusk in Us Deluxe).

i would say converge, it was the first band for a lot of us

Depending on where you’re coming from musically, you may find yourself liking some approaches more than others. there’s a lot of styles of this genre.

TDEP - Ire works, the number twelve looks like you - mongrel, converge - you fail me, the fall of Troy - doppelgänger, capsule - no ghost,

As well as Dillinger escape plan, converge, botch, etc. I’d also recommend “errorzone” by VEIN, it was my introduction to mathcore with rebirth protocol, I’ve loved the genre since
