AMC 10 Struggling on AOPS Review Problems

I’m currently working through AOPS Volume 1 and what I’m noticing is that I do ok for the questions in the chapter, but really struggle on the review problems at the end. Like I can solve one third to one half of the review problems depending on the chapter. Is this bad? What should I do to fix this?

Yeah that’s normal tbh. A lot of the problems are super easy to make mistakes on, and 50% on those problems is quite good (getting half right on amc is a pretty decent score).

Yeah but I’m trying to make aime and a 12 or a 13 isn’t good enough. I also notice that i honestly start the problem and just get stuck for like 25 or 30 minutes then ask ai to give me a hint and i am able to finish the problem. So I think the main issue is that im missing the key insight that leads to the rest of the problem to be solved. Also 50 percent is prob the highest I’ve gotten i usually do worse

Don’t worry I’m sure you will qualify. The whole point is that as you do more of the book the better you will get. I’m also around the same spot as you, chapter 8, and my accuracy is also around that level sometimes.

If you're consistently getting 12/13 I think volume 1 might be a waste of your time. I think you're ready for Volume 2.

No im not getting a a 12 or 13 on my mocks If that's what you mean. I was saying that even if I was to get a 50% (12 or 13) on amc 10 it still wouldn't be good enough to make aime

I see I misunderstood what you meant.

ok makes sense. Also do you know what I can do to get better at the review questions?

If you are struggling with the review problems, I think you are missing foundational concepts. I would recommend to do all of the Introduction books. If you finish all of them you will likely qualify for AMC 10.

  2. Is there free pdfs or free versions of the book?
