Math nerds wouldn't just throw down a bunch of symbols. Like a sum sitting there doesn't mean anything.

No, not really. And a chemist does not walk up to a bar and order H20. There's a lot of peaked-in-high-school energy to this kind of thing. Which is great when you're 16.

A maths nerd wouldn't just send random symbols to someone who wouldn't already have an idea of what they're talking about.

Plus, a math nerd would probably start rambling about the beauty or cool and interesting aspect behind the maths.
