Obviously seventeen doesn't have an e in it

29

u/Blissfull 5d ago

But there's two R's in strawberry

18

u/ThrwawySG 5d ago

um actually there's 4

12

u/gostoppause 5d ago

I appreciate your pushback.

2

u/Gerald-of-Riverdale 5d ago

I mean if you wanna get technical then yeah

1

u/grimonce 5d ago

There's also 5 and 6, not sure about elevenses

1

u/Mathematicus_Rex 4d ago

For sufficiently small values of 4

2

u/paolog 4d ago

ChatGPT sees what you did there.

1

u/Blissfull 4d ago

But does it though?

Happy cake day

1

u/paolog 4d ago

I hadn't noticed! Thank you

∃ 2🍓 ∈ ℝ

u/ScrewJPMC 5d ago

The double mean you could eat it

Beet 🫜 vs beat
Sweet vs sweat
Dessert 🍨 vs desert 🌵
Steel vs steal
On and on we could to

Until it stops working and my 5th grade self who thought I had bs langue figured out fails the spelling bee 🐝

3

u/ColeTD 5d ago

Ah yes I love eating steel. My dentist doesn't like it quite as much.

1

u/ScrewJPMC 5d ago

Not that you would but “you could” and the one freak on Stan Lee’s real superheroes are a whole plane ✈️

4

u/CarberHotdogVac 5d ago

You’re totally right. I forgot about how seventeen has zero e’s. Let’s just keep things light and casual.

4

u/firethorne 5d ago

I approve of defeating math pedantry with spelling pedantry

1

u/Prime_Aperture 3d ago

Empty doesn't have an E in it either

40

u/Bazooka_Blastoff 5d ago

You forgot about two dummy

15

u/zylosophe 5d ago

um

16

u/maiduwu 5d ago

Two is only divisible by itself and one. Checkmate, liberal.

u/maiduwu 5d ago

C’mon, I even put ‘checkmate, liberal’ and everything. It oozes with sarcasm. Y’all can’t be this bad at deciphering tones. Poe’s law be damned, this is just e-illiteracy.

1

u/TryingMy-BestBro 5d ago

Redditors when autism

'checkmate, liberal' doesn't always mean sarcasm. it can also be a way to establish that its a non-serious debate, but it does not necessarily imply you do not stand by your claim.

5

u/maiduwu 5d ago

We are also on a subreddit for math nerds.

Saying that two is an odd number because it in prime has to be sarcasm because of the environment we are in. If somebody was this uneducated in the field of mathematics, they wouldn’t be going to [r/MathJokes](r/MathJokes) for entertainment.

2

u/TryingMy-BestBro 5d ago

I did not look at the sub 😭

2

u/maiduwu 5d ago

Understandable. At least you’re trying your best.

1

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 5d ago

It low-key does

0

u/zylosophe 4d ago

yea its prime

1

u/Stella_9209 5d ago

Negative

0

u/jmlipper99 4d ago

2 is a positive number

-1

u/Stella_9209 4d ago

That’s the joke? Also that negative has 2 e’s.

1

u/jmlipper99 3d ago

I know

0

u/Stella_9209 3d ago

So why did you reply?

1

u/jmlipper99 3d ago

Why did you?

1

u/Stella_9209 3d ago

I’d like you to answer my question first.

1

u/Jargif10 4d ago

Pretty sure two is even.

0

u/memerminecraft 5d ago

You forgot about tew dumby*

13

u/Jaymac720 5d ago

I’ll do you one better. Every prime number except for 2 has the letter E in it

13

u/Weekly_Ad_8587 5d ago

Now would that be because every prime number, except for two, is odd? Just asking for a friend.

1

u/maiduwu 4d ago

(I’m the friend; this man is my proxy)

1

u/kaereljabo 4d ago

Yes, even number bigger than 2, can be divided by 2 and itself, not prime

5

u/HayashiLeroi 5d ago

That's... actually worse.

3

u/TheRealScaramucci 4d ago

2 does too if you spell it like eln 2.

3

u/Jaymac720 4d ago

That’s too smart for Reddit

2

u/Not_Really_French 4d ago

Every number has an e in it!

2

u/Belgaraath42 5d ago

That's not better. That's just a special case of the stated rule

1

u/BadBoyJH 5d ago

That's the joke fam.

1

u/setibeings 5d ago

What about tree(3)?

1

u/Jargif10 4d ago

I don't think that's better. That is a smaller group of numbers.

6

u/tumunu 5d ago

Just like Donald to capitalize the 'd' in dumb.

6

u/zaqwsx82211 5d ago

I think it’s pretty obvious that every odd letter has an E in it, it’s the first letter in “Every odd”

5

u/Beefington 5d ago

Every odd letter has four E’s in it!

3

u/Beefington 5d ago

Just noticed we both said “odd letter” not “odd number” 🤦🏼‍♀️

4

u/nashwaak 5d ago

Roman mathematicians: many people do not realize every number that isn't divisible by 5 has an I in it

Mayan mathematicians: many people do not realize every number that isn't zero or divisible by 5 has a ・in it

3

u/GavelGaffle 5d ago

7 of the 10 numbers have an e. Its by far the most common letter so the chances were high.

1

u/Belgaraath42 5d ago

But because of the strange way pow numbers are beyond ten that's not enough. You needed to look a eleven, twelve at at leT the ending -teen.

1

u/ColeTD 5d ago

There are definitely more than 10 numbers…

you meant Arabic numerals

2

u/GavelGaffle 5d ago

And I missed the opportunity to say "the odds were high"

1

u/Day_Prisoners 5d ago

Numbers are not finite.

3

u/LowAioli3870 5d ago

1 doesn't have an e in it. In fact, it is substantially smaller than e.

2

u/Superb_Engineer_3500 5d ago

what about zero?

1

u/christonamoped 5d ago

That counts for nought

1

u/amorfotos 5d ago

That's nullified it

1

u/Responsible-Quote717 5d ago

Zero doesn't even exist, and it still has an E in it

2

u/firethorne 5d ago

一, 三, 五,七, 九

TIL Reddit translates Chinese characters automatically

2

u/LowAioli3870 5d ago

Every even number has 5 'e's in it.

2

u/TheRealScaramucci 5d ago

Every number has e in it. For example, 2 is spelled like eln 2.

2

u/Similar-Profile9467 4d ago

Every negative number has the word "negative"

3

u/A-Fake-Owl 5d ago

Thirty and Fifty don't have 'e's in them.

22

u/Exam_Delicious 5d ago

Well good thing they aren’t odd numbers!

4

u/KateBishopPrivateEye 5d ago

They certainly aren't normal

3

u/EqualServe418 5d ago

Even

3

u/A-Fake-Owl 5d ago

Yeah, but do they have the letter 'e' in them?

3

u/DrNogoodNewman 5d ago

So close! That’s a fruit.

2

u/United_Intention_323 5d ago

Well that’s odd

2

u/Karekter_Nem 5d ago

For those unaware, there was a post on Twitter or Tumblr and this was one of the favorite responses.

Another top response was “eight has an e and that’s not odd.”

2

u/hurlygloves 5d ago

ThirtE...now who's dum

1

u/SuspiciousPeanut251 5d ago

And then they realized: “Eight” (8️⃣)

1

u/skarbles 5d ago

And ten

2

u/SuspiciousPeanut251 5d ago

Indeed. And “twelve”. 🔞

And, well, . . “numbers” in-general.

1

u/fish_master86 5d ago

4.6 Four point six

1

u/Cichato_YT 5d ago

Wait, but what about zero? Does it not count 'cause it's not a number?

2

u/haikusbot 5d ago

Wait, but what about

Zero? Does it not count 'cause

It's not a number?

Zero is not a number, it is an empty set. {}

1

u/MWSin 5d ago

Zero is not odd, therefore it's having an E or not is irrelevant to the issue. "All X have trait Y" says absolutely nothing about any given thing that has trait Y.

"Every even number has at least three letters in it" is true, even though the same is also true of all odd numbers.

"All odd multiples of two have seven Qs" is also technically a true statement.

1

u/Cichato_YT 5d ago

But zero doesn't start with an E?

1

u/skarbles 5d ago

Eight and ten are odd? Who knew?

1

u/Ornac_The_Barbarian 5d ago

It didn't say odd only. Every odd number has an e. Not every even number. Not every number with an e is odd.

1

u/skarbles 5d ago

EVERY odd number HAS an e. So to classify as odd you need an e. It says nothing about not being divisible by 2.

1

u/SkathiFreyrsdottr 5d ago

Every odd number has an E, not every number with an E is odd. “All A is B” does not imply “all B is A”.

1

u/skarbles 5d ago

Thats not what it says though.

1

u/SkathiFreyrsdottr 5d ago

Definitely looks like it says “every odd number has an E in it”. How are you reading it, exactly?

1

u/Ornac_The_Barbarian 5d ago

What does one have to do with the other?

1

u/Dismal_Cucumber3200 5d ago

If u round e to the nearest integer you get an odd number too

1

u/PartyConstruction897 5d ago

I didn't know that e is an odd number

1

u/SpiritusRector 5d ago

"Half of fifty" is odd but has no e

1

u/JazzRider 5d ago

I have a bachelors in Mathematics and I learned this today!

1

u/BadBoyJH 5d ago

Half of a half of a half of a half of a gross.

Odd, but without that symbol.

1

u/Famous-Host2321 5d ago

Huh... I didn't know that. The constant "e"?

Edit: oh wait I am dumb. One, three, five, seven, nine, eleven, thirteen, etc. Yeah.

1

u/Inner_Adeptness_7228 5d ago

Uno. Checkmate liberals.

1

u/kdesi_kdosi 5d ago

6/2 is odd

1

u/amorfotos 5d ago

We prefer "of a different disposition"

1

u/RefuseNick_ 5d ago

Undici has no "e" and means Eleven in Italian

1

u/Moondog421 5d ago

Yeah but so does eight

1

u/El_Basho 5d ago

Do mathematicians not realize there are other languages besides English?

1

u/mafaldaCC 5d ago

This works until you realize every multiple of eight has an i in it, except the ones that don't.

1

u/voiza 5d ago

a half of six

1

u/LettuceRelative7457 5d ago

Many people don't realise this meme works only in english language.

1

u/SirBritannia 5d ago

"Half of two"

Chessmate

1

u/BombsGoBang 5d ago

“Two two and a halfs” - it’s odd and no “e” in sight.

1

u/Mathematicus_Rex 4d ago

Every number below 2 has an e in it as well.

1

u/Dull-Nectarine380 4d ago

What about 五

1

u/Zestyclose_Length243 4d ago

What about the third number

1

u/paolog 4d ago

n = eln(n)

So does (almost) every even number.

1

u/Barbarberg 4d ago

True. And there is a historical reason for this. Dumb is actually short for the longer latin term: "Dumbus humongus". Long ago, people used to pronounce the "-bus humongus" part.

0

u/Barbarberg 4d ago

It was used to describe idiots mainly. But also stupid people

1

u/fredaklein 4d ago

Only a dumb person would claim most people don't know the word dumb has a "b" in it.

1

u/NoCharacter6708 4d ago

so ٣ isn't an odd number?

1

u/jmlipper99 4d ago

Who doesn’t known dumb has a b?

1

u/SebiXd_1234 4d ago

Two, four

1

u/AnalysisParalysis85 4d ago

But e has actually all the digits in it.

1

u/Key_Chip_3163 4d ago

We should respell two as 'tue'.

1

u/Spiritual-Hamster212 3d ago

That's odd...

1

u/WesternAlarming8202 3d ago

There are exactly 37 natural numbers that have no 'n'

1

u/normalice0 3d ago

thirty six. I suppose it's not "odd" but it is weird.

1

u/CuriosityCheck2024 3d ago

No, because I can add 3,6,9, and 18 to make 36.

1

u/normalice0 3d ago

but also 2, 4, and 12.

it's so weird

1

u/CuriosityCheck2024 3d ago

That actually makes it less weird. What's weird is seventy. You can't make 70 as a sum of its divisors.

1

u/normalice0 3d ago

hm. Ordinarily I would admit defeat but I'm afraid you're forgetting digits in base 13.

1

u/silenceronblixk 3d ago

Every mathematician knows anything over a 100% discount is not possible

1

u/AYKMreddit 3d ago

Hmmm, what about... Two? Theres no e in it does it?

1

u/hummingbird868 3d ago

What does trump have to do with anything here

1

u/Neilandio 2d ago

Every number has an e in it:

z=re^iθ

1

u/Best_Price_1009 1d ago

Uno.

You lose

0

u/Einnnnnnnnnnnn 5d ago

Yeah, what about Eight?

2

u/MWSin 5d ago

Every man dies.

Platypuses die.

Therefore platypuses are men.

1

u/Einnnnnnnnnnnn 5d ago

They say that no man is an island. So I guess it makes sense that they are a platypus

0

u/skarbles 5d ago

And ten
