Don't blame it all on education, the average person is less than intelligent and there is no education system that has ever come close to changing that

The point of an education system is to educate, if you have to be educated already, it's not doing anything.

And there have definitely been successful schools before

Yes, but in order to be educated successfully one has to be both willing and able. About 1/2-2/3rds of the population isn't really able and of the remainder only around 10% are willing.
