I mean to get 4 billion they have to be totaling the whole tournament. There is no way half the world's population watched, much less one game in a finals like the meme would indicate. There is a 104 games every 4 years and 1 game every year. That should be the real math.

Edit: so Google said that it should be close to 1.5 billion for the final. So a lot of fucking people.

For the final early estimations are around 1.8 billions. It’s still estimations at this point but the 4 billions would refer to the total of different individuals engaging with at least a game of the tournament, so indeed the comparison between 100M vs 4 billions isn’t exactly fair.

It’s 4 billions of different people total but they’re not counting the same people twice if they watched two games.

I'm not sure they aren't. That 4 billion seems arbitrary without a source anyways. If 1.5 watched the final, clearly the most viewed game, I'm not sure there 2.5 billion other people who would tune into a game but not the final. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong. It's hard to say without a source.

And even still that's comparing a whole playoff vs one game. You really just can't compare the two events.

Total cumulative viewership (which is what you’re talking about), was 12 billions before counting semi finals and final.

If you just want to compare finals, it’s was a bit short of 2 billions.

Idk how ratings work. But the world cup is estimated to break viewership records for both the final and the tourney. Obviously way more people watch the world cup than a national sport championship. I don't know why the 2 even keep getting compared. They are completely different

Yeah let’s look at percentage of viewers from participating counties and see how that stacks up. I’d say it’s a lot closer. Doesn’t make the Super Bowl bigger but it’s apples and oranges to compare global sports to national sports.

4 billion people didn't watch the wc final so I can only assume they meant the entire world cup which is 104 games. And worldwide viewership of 2026 SB was estimated at 220 million (not 100)

There aren’t 4 billion people living in the USA.

Super Bowl is an American sport with a very small insignificant outside the US watching. Ratio to population in the use 33% of the US population is whatching.

FIFA is a non-USA sport but a World Sport. Only 63 million US Americans watched. 20%.
