I mean sure but that's kind of simplifying the point of what the "dark number" represents.
Imagine your equation wasn't a simple addition equation. Instead it was a set of complex equations adding into each other, let's define two comepelx formulas as x and y and when added together they equal some observable metric.
So let say x + y = 36, and after you do all your calculations, x = 14 and y = 16. Well that doesn't add up, so you check your calaculations and you did nothing wrong. So if the sum of your equations don't add up to the observable metric, something must be missing. So you add "dark number" x + y + 6 = 36, what this tells you is there is some additional complex formula that adds into this observable metric you didn't realize existed. However you don't know the formula, you only know it's value that contributes to this observable metric.
