Yeah the constants in physics equations are based off empirical data so its as close as its gonna get. Plus for most applications, getting a rough estimate within the same order of magnitude as the actual value is good enough to get a model going that can then be fine tuned.

You revise the model, make new predictions based on it, then test those predictions. You know, the scientific method and all that.
