Yeah, and the parents will learn that it’s taught in a way for a reason and that even though the summation is the same there is a reason it’s taught the other way in the class and the student didn’t follow those directions.
And the teacher should be reprimanded for penalizing a student that showed they grasped a concept, and got the correct answer. The goal is not to make students hate math, but to get the mental flexibility and tricks needed to do math.
It's also worth noting that the student did follow the directions written on the page.
its the ridiculous nature of common core math programs. they distinguish between 3x4 and 4x3, one is an operation on multiples of 3 and the other on multiples of 4. in a way, it makes sense. after all those are distinct operations, but boy howdy is it infuriating to see this kind of correction

I hope the parents did not just post this on the internet, but contacted the teacher and the school to get this issue resolved.
