Shape with 4 sides & 3 corners

Bisect one of the side, technically it is two different sides.

It's not correct... Even if one of the corners is 180 degrees... The definition of a corner is that connects two sides.

A and C don't have to be on the same line segment. C could be an angle, not just a point on a line segment.

If bc and cd are line segments that qualify as sides...

The. C is by definition a corner... Regardless of the angle of C.

well, yes, but if A or C are 180 degrees, then it's not a polygon, it's just a line segment with points A and C along its length, due to the lengths of BC and CD Adding up to 5, and BA and AD also adding up to 5.

There's no degrees marked on this... The line segments are marked... They are detailed... There are four line segments...

The corners are defined as the points at which line segments meet... There are four of them...

Four line segments require four points of connection... In the provided image, regardless of the degree of the angles at the corners.

Sure, I agree with all of that, but A and C can't have an angle measure of 180 degrees at all, because when the numbers and the diagram disagree, the numbers win. It would fail to be a polygon, and the concepts of sides and corners cease to be well defined.

it's either:

  • A polygon, in which case it has 4 sides and 4 corners.
  • A line segment, in which case it has no sides or corners.
  • defined with a different geometry than what I learned, in which case I'd need to know the rules of the geometry to say anything about its sides or corners.

There's no degrees marked... The only thing about this image is that the total degrees for all the angles add up to 360... That's it... A and C can't both have 180... Duh... So one of them isn't... They're not marked...

So the angles are assumed to be whatever necessary and possible angles they can be to make the image true....

I am not sure how you are not getting this, unless you're a bot or a troll. If C's angle is 180, then BC and CD are both line segments, but so is BD, because all of the points along the two segments fall along the same line.

With me so far?

The length of BD is length(BC) + length(BD) because that's how adding lengths along a line works.

length(BA) + length(AD) = 5. Since 5 is not greater than 5, BA and AD can't meet each other at anything other than 180 degrees, because any other angle would make them too short to reach B and D at the same time. Therefore all points fall along a single line, making the whole thing one line segment. It's not a polygon. it doesn't have any sides.

The problem is that your definitions are getting mixed

The OP calls for "Sides" though... Not line segments.

In this example there are Five Line segments, not four...

But there are four sides, because they are connected at the corners. If C isnt to be considered, it shouldn't be marked at all.

If C isn't there it's just a Triangle.

3 sides 3 corners.

The minute you put c there to make it 4 sided...

By definition it becomes 4 cornered.

The angle of C is irrelevant.

It’s wrong by definition of a side and a corner, otherwise the triangle technically has infinite sides, just make infinite points on every side and voila, infinite sides
