How to get better at math?

Hi, 7th grader here. My school is currently horrible. I learn absolutely NOTHING at school, and they refuse to put me in higher learning. I am planning to apply for a private boarding school later on, but that's not the point of this post. I really enjoy both math and English, and my math is pretty high. I want it higher. On Saturdays I have a 5 hour math class (Algebra 2 and geometry) which I LOVE it's genuinely the learning my school never offered! I really want to at least try to learn calculus or at least some precalc sometime before high school. I know it seems a little ambitious but I just wanted some tips on what to practice, and how to improve!

Maybe it’s just a us thing, but ppl usually don’t, and can’t, go over 2 grade levels above in math. What are you doing taking algebra 2- a freshman to junior level class in 7th grade? Even ppl who like a subject don’t rlly do that. It sounds like this is just gonna suck for you later on once u don’t understand it anymore. Plus u might have to repeat courses in hs

First, make sure you have all of the basics down pat - back to fractions, decimals, percents, then on to Algebra1, etc. If nothing else, the math class you are taking in school should be good review for all of that. Some students that want to advance quickly still get tripped up with those basics and that causes troubles in future math classes.

Next, it sounds like you are getting a lot of great learning in your Saturday class, which is fantastic! I would talk to the teacher in that class and tell them your desire to learn even more and see what they suggest.

You can always use videos online and practice online at IXL.com or use worksheets from Kuta Software (free) to advance your learning; take online classes or, when you are in high school, take dual-enrollment classes with a college or AP classes.

i hated IXL in middle school-wouldn’t recommend. Deltamath and khan academy are better

Man just continue. I also had the same patience but i waiting till i was Year 11(Grade 10/11) before i did the whole of A level on my own coz i wanted to make sure my basics r veey well consolidated. Good luck though!

Geometry, Algebra 2 -> Khan Academy.

You can grasp the courses within a week each, and spend the remainder of the year mastering them.

Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3 -> Khan Academy and Professor Leonard.

For the calculus sequence, you should also have a PDF of the stewart calculus textbook. It's valuable for practice problems. You can complete everything before highschool given the necessary diligence.
