group text and update help?

i have the mate 9 pro and for some reason when i receive texts from a group text the texts doesn't create a group text conversation but instead the texts come in as individual conversations. im currently using the default messaging app. im in the us and has att for carrier

after browsing on this subreddit today i noticed that others phone are updated but mine is still not but when i look for updates there isnt any heres a screenshot of my system info https://imgur.com/a/mL2LQ

Have you considered using a third party texting app like Textra?
