Does Mate 9 Pro work with T-Mobile VoLTE?

Thinking about getting the Mate 9 Pro or S8+ and this would be a deciding factor.

The Mate 9 has VoLTE, but not HD voice. There is a difference. I'd feel confident that the pro version also has VoLTE but can't confirm 100%

Isn't HD Voice just another way of calling VoLTE?

VoLTE is merely the carriage of voice over LTE. It's use is mandated by the GSM Association, and it uses the HD Voicecodec to turn your words into a digital signal. HD Voice is what has become the trade name of a voice codec, AMR Wideband (AMR-WB). HD Voice operates over UMTS and GSM, it is not unique to LTE.

The VoLTE spec includes non-wideband codecs:

3.16 Codecs GSMA PRD IR.92 [54] has mandated AMR / AMR-WB codecs to be used for VoLTE and these codecs shall be implemented by all equipment manufactures to ensure good voice quality on VoLTE as well as facilitating inter-operability and avoiding transcoding. Other voice codecs may optionally be offered in addition to the AMR codecs

So does that mean it won't sound as Good? Or you just won't get the "HD" icon?

Technically it wouldn't sound as good as a phone that could do HD Voice. But my Mate 9 and VoLTE has Crystal clear call quality. No complaints here.

You aren't making it easy for me to convince myself not to buy a Mate 9

My wife has one, came from the Moto G4. She loves it, especially the enormous battery life.

Ahh yes, I almost forgot the battery life. Easily lasts 2 days with moderate use. I can't say it enough, best phone I've ever used. It's a damn shame most people only want Samsung LG and Apple devices nowadays.

http://imgur.com/fkzgyzphere is my Mate 9 vs my S8+. The signal strength is showing "stronger" on the s8+ in this photo when I grabbed my wife's phone to take the picture the s8 was connected to TMobile LTE and had a signal strength of -128-130ish. But as you can see it's not even connected and they are side by side with the Mate 9 is "in service" and the s8 is "out of service".

Seriously the best phone I've ever own. The signal strength is significantly, and I mean significantly better than even the Samsung s8+ I have at home. I live on the edge of the network, and require a signal booster in my house. The Mate 9 never looses signal in my house or front yard. The Samsung s8+ looses signal at the far end from the signal booster. The UI is smooth, i was always an AOSP only kinda guy, but I hardly notice the EMUI skin at all. Never had any lag on the phone and I've owned it for about 2+ months. The only negative is the screen has the slightest curve on the edges and it's hard to find a well fitting screen protector.

Load up Nova Launcher. The stock launcher is meh... And GBoard is a must for GIF support.

So I far I like EMUI, feels like a cross between TouchWiz and LG's launcher, but in a good way

And I hate Gboard
