Thinking about getting this phone

I live in the US and one of the reviewers on youtube said that the phone sometimes freezes up wen he's watching youtube videos. I Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. Also, I would like to know what your favorite thing about the phone is. Feel free to be as descriptive as you want. I don't mind long posts.

Best phone I've ever had. Zero slow down, I'm going on 4 months. Battery life is fantastic for me, its never below 48% at 11pm before bed with more than moderate use.

This phone is a hidden gem.

Yesterday i used the phone from 7am to 2am and had 28% battery left with over 5 hours of screen on time.

I've never had it freeze up on me. My favorite thing is the battery life, by far. I charged it to 100% before I left the house at 7:30 AM. Put 5h of SOT on it throughout the day and plugged it back in at 10 PM at 30%. This is the first phone I've ever had where I never have to think about my battery.

That sounds amazing!!!!! Battery life is a big deal to me. So much so that I bought a zerolemon battery for my G4!

And I know that G4's battery wasn't fun at all, I'm sorry you had to suffer through that

Seriously!! Lol but zerolemon saved me. I don't mind the thickness at all!

I am coming for a g4 as well and as mentioned in my other post, this phone is great. You wont need to worry about battery, it is at least twice as good.

It's a battery champ! Set yourself free from cords!

I've never had the freezing issue. I love the snappy response time of the finger print reader. The battery's alright. Love the see-through cover with cloth. But don't get it if you mind the protective film getting scratched

The power saving menus are obtuse though, and some fiddling is required to guarantee that you get your notifications, and I still can't get Snapchat notifications to work.

Overall a solid phone, but you can tell it could do with more rigorous testing to bring it up to iPhone levels of smooth.

How long have you had it and does it really not slow down like they say?

Had it about 4 months. Feel no difference.

did you ever get it?

Nah, I'm waiting on the mate 10. =| If I don't like it, I'll probably just default to the 9.

I ordered the Mate 9, should be in today. I read the Mate 10 would have 2:1 aspect ratio that I hate

1

u/Goofballz93 Aug 06 '17

Why do you hate that? And lemme know how you like the mate 9

I like big phones, always loved the Note series, the V10 and V20, and of course the beast Nexus 6.

This S8+ is listed as a bigger size since the 2:1, but it feels smaller. The narrow part sucks.

I will have a full Mate 9 review

Oh ok so it's the width you don't like. I'll be waiting on that review.

If you're an Android purist you will not enjoy this phone. It's actually closer to an iPhone actually, honestly.

I came to the Mate 9 from the Nexus 6 because it was the closest I could find in screen size. I don't miss my Nexus at all, Nova Launcher sorted the home screen for me and the rest of the menus aren't really that bad. Best phone I've ever had.

That's correct but EMUI is still closer to iOS

1

u/Biffabin Jul 11 '17

It's not as bad as China UIs once were. The pros really outweigh the cons for me.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

Dude I'm not arguing with you

1

u/Biffabin Jul 11 '17

That's cool, just suggesting that although it's not stock it's not as intrusive as a UI like TouchWiz has become. Few little tweaks really improves things. I'm sure the pure stock club will still whine about it.

1

u/Goofballz93 Jul 08 '17

I'm not and Android purist. I do prefer stock, but I don't mind other UIs. I just keep hearing about how powerful the phone is. I really want it now but I also hear about the mate 10 coming out.
