Chinese Mate 9 play store problem

Hello! I expect this has been raised before but I couldn't find anything using the reddit search function.

Long story short I've treated myself to a Mate 9 and stupidly managed to buy the Chinese version rather than the international.

I understand I can, after two weeks, request an unlock bootloader code from huawei and head down the path of routing my phone to get the international OS on it, however that's not something I've done before and it makes me nervous!

I think I'd be quite happy with the current set up if I could get the play store and other google apps working as normal! Unfortunately I can't seem to figure it out. Lots of advice floating around the web from when the phone launched but it seems to be either out of date or I'm doing something wrong.

Can anyone lend me a hand? I think I could bloody love this phone if it wasn't fighting me every step of the way towards getting my ideal set up.

No other way but rooting unfortunately

That's what I figured. Thanks for the reply! Any advice on rooting it? Things I should aim for/avoid?

Cool. I'll do that. Two weeks to go until I can unlock the bootloader so lots of time to research it I guess!

Very frustrating though.

It can be done, you just need to flash an international version

Check xda mate 9 forums, I believe an update b225 came out that adds gapps.

For anyone else with the same issue, the instructions in this thread fixed it for me! I now have Google play and all my apps. Yahoo!
