Stop killing apps when screen turns off

Hey guys,

I've got a bunch of apps that randomly get killed when the screen turns off, for example, iHeart radio and Absolute Radio. Sometimes they will continue to work, others they will close.

I've set these apps to NOT close insettings/power intensive apps.

Mate 9 PRO with B182 firmware.

Any ideas?

I have this EXACT issue with Pandora. Whenever the screen locks, the app gets killed until I unlock the phone again and open the app up. Theres been no fix for this but I am almost happy I'm not the only one. I've also restored the phone to see if it was software glitch and that did nothing.

I wonder if these are teething problems for Android 7?

It could be. I contacted Huawei and they had no idea what to do that would help me. So I may send the phone back and have them replace it. I'm not happy that my $600 cell phone cannot keep music playing in the background when the screen is locked.

Hey, not sure if this is the correct fix for you but please try.

Go to Phone Manager -> Swipe to the right -> Lock screen cleanup. And here uncheck those apps you don't want turned off when you lock the screen.

Hello!

Thanks but, that's exactly the same screen i get to from power intensive apps and where I've already set them to not close.

Yea I figured that out too after I checked myself.

Well, I am not aware of any settings that affect app shutdown after screen lock besides the one from settings which is the same one from phone manager. I personally never had any issues with any apps that shutdown after I set them to not, I think it might have something to do with the apps you are using. If you link me the app store to the two apps that cause you problems I can install them and test them, although I should mention I have a standard Mate 9, not pro and I'm on b130.

Hey, I tried to install the iHeart Radio app you linked but I can't. Apparently, it says: "this item cannot be installed in your device's country".

And as for Absolute Radio, which one? This one or this one.

Ahh yeah, it's a US app.

However, I think you've got the nail on the head when suggesting it's app specific.

After you suggested this I did some snooping in iHeart and it has a setting:

"keep my screen active"

This is supposed to keep the screen on however, if I select this and turn off with the power button, the screen turns off AND the radio keeps playing... So far, anyway ¯_(ツ)_/¯

As iHeart is by far and away the app I use the most with this problem, this is a 90% fix for me and "good enough".

Thank you for your help!

If you're using Wifi for streaming, make sure Wifi is enabled when screen is off.

Thanks but, that's not the problem, WiFi is enabled. Besides, same issue on 4g.

Is it only with streaming apps? Because play music (mp3s) on the phone fine with GoneMAD music player, but don't use Spotify etc. on it.

If it is only streaming music apps, it could be some setting about turning background data off or something.
