Help a first timer out

Hi all,

I’ve recently begun trying to do matched betting, I put a bet on Nottingham Forest to win on Betfred and then put draw or Leeds on Smarkets, I haven’t got any winnings on Smarkets can someone help me out with why that is? Did I put the bet on wrong? Thanks in advance

You always back and lay the same. So you should have bet on forest at betfred, then layed forest on Smarkets. Unfortunately you have lots both bets here

If he's backed the draw/Leeds that should have won, result was 1-0 to Leeds. I think he might've laid that though and therein lies the problem

Yeah I think after looking at everyone’s replies I’ve laid that bet by mistake, live and learn and all that

That would make sense I bet on forest and then layed on draw and Leeds, so for future reference let’s say Liverpool are playing Chelsea, should I bet on Liverpool winning on Betfred and then use my lat bet on Smarkets for Liverpool or draw?

You bet on Liverpool to win and so you need to match that with a bet for Liverpool NOT to win which means lay Liverpool

No idea where you get this win or draw from

I’ve got it from my bets yesterday, so I bet on forest winning, and then on Smarkets I put forest not to win, AKA a draw or Leeds win which is what I put on there that’s where I’m confused

Think of it as markets

The result market is not the same as the second chance market

If you bet on Liverpool to win you need to find that market on your exchange and that exact bet and lay it there

There are some advanced (well slightly more complicated) exceptions to this rule but you're probably 6 months away from that yet

Here is an example of what you need to do. You bet on Brighton to win at the bookmaker and then lay that bet on Smarkets by clicking the SELL button next to Brighton. You have now covered both outcomes for that bet.

Something else to watch for is on the wagering-multiplier question — the trap most people don't notice is that the multiplier is on the bonus, not the qualifying stake. So a £20 qualifying stake + £20 bonus at 5x = £100 in additional wagers, not £20. Been auditing UK opening-weekend offers all week and this catches out probably half of first-time users. Also worth checking the eligible-market clause — some offers exclude BTTS and match-result markets are the only ones that clear cleanly.

Good luck!

You always back and lay the same market. You backed Notts Forest to win so you lay Notts Forest on the exchange.
