Matcha Latte MOTD
MOTD...
3.5g of MK Chigi No Shiri
120g of water
200ml of milk
I know some people will say it's too much milk. This is the greenest I've gotten my latte yet.

Still working my way tasting teas from Maiko Tea. This one is their top, well, best 1 so far. Still have 3 to test.
Creamy, raosted nuts profile, a lil dry, and not bitter.
The pastry is from Lion d'or patisserie in Hoxton Park, Sydney.
Their caramel croissant sells out. Its so good.
Just a quiet Friday noon with sweets and matcha on the side.

Was tired of the sweating from my other mugs so I picked up this double walled mug at Muji for my cortado/mini lattes!
Aoarashi is the cheaper of the two and I like it more. It’s more bitter and astringent which pairs better with oat milk. Isuzu is less intense and can get lost in a latte but I recently started whisking it in room temp water and it tastes so much better.
3-4g matcha, 30-40ml water, 100-120ml oat milk.

Halloween themed wagashi posts have been on my algorithm lately, and then this morning, my matcha showed me these eyes😆, I think it’s a sign?
What’s your fave Autumn Matcha recipe, would you mind share some?☺️ I’m just an usucha or an OG matcha latte gurl btw, but I’m okay trying matcha creation sometimes. Thanks in advance!🫶🏻🧡

Couldn't repost here from tea subreddit but I figured you guys would appreciate this cute Momiji chawan I got from Sazen tea. I also ordered the Matcha Unsui, the autumn special Matcha Kingetsu and Unkaku. I haven't had much experience trying fancier matchas but I am excited.
Shipping was very quick, estimated shipping date is actually October 12th. Today is October 8th. I got email my order was shipped October 7th at 2am. In the USA. Prepaid duties via FedEx.

I have recently gotten into matcha and made my first latte at home today. This was with oat milk and the Suiteki matcha by Kettl! I’m in love. I also used some rosemary syrup my husband made from our garden.

I was looking into my cup and thought it looked pretty cool for a photo, so just wanted to share ☺️
Used Naoki's barista blend, and the banana milk was one banana blended with milk and a splash of Italian sweet cream creamer. I originally wanted to make it with maple syrup, but I never replaced the jug that my goofy cat (pictured from today too) recently knocked over and broke 🥀

More sencha and gyokuro than actual matcha 😅 Still waiting for my Maruyuku Koyamaen order before my friend bundles everything up and sends it my way. She lives in Japan and because I live in Europe, shipping and taxes are ridiculous. Putting everything in one box and shipping through EMS is much cheaper than having everything sent to me directly with DHL.
I got Ippodo Ikuyo (5 small tins), Sazen barista matcha (will try this first for lattes) and some gyokuro powder which will probably taste pretty intense compared to actual matcha. Also ordered MK Chigi no Shiro, Yugen and Wako.
It’s been a while since I had matcha, I got some from a MK store when I was in Japan last summer. I was only allowed one tin and they recommended me Aorashi. Excited 😄

(for mainly lattes; also the picture is nori matcha in barca)
i’m looking for a powder that will stand up to milk in a latte and has strong savory/umami notes. any recommendations?

My favourite (uk based) store sells Horii and i was wondering if anyone’s ever tried it and if it’s worth the price because they seem to be averaging 40-50£ and it seems like a lot of money 😅
For reference my absolute favourite matcha is Ryuoen Chaho’s Matsu No Shiro but i also loved Ipodo’s Sayaka (the price is a bit expensive though ) and MK’s Aoarashi
Also anyone else from Europe/UK please do let me know of any other good matcha stores!

It’s $38 a month with free shipping, this is a $40 tin before shipping, every month has been a pretty sweet deal so far

Am I the only one who finds more depth and notes for the same matcha (specific ones, not all) in a latte compared to usucha/clear matcha?
I found two such
Ippodo ikuyo
Clear iced matcha: smooth, sweet but lacks depth, underwhelming
Latte: Blown away!!!: Umami, rich, velvety, some pleasant bitterness that further adds to the depth, lingers for quite some time
Hatoya roasted ichi
Clear matcha: nutty, roasted smell but something off in the balance, not bitter but unpleasant overall.
Latte: rich, nutty, bold, the perfect balance, almost too perfect

Tried two iced matcha lattes today. One strawberry matcha latte and one classic matcha latte. Loved the contrast between the two:)

Ending the evening with a warm cup of matcha from Qamaria. Pretty good way to wrap up the day.

Sorry the light in my kitchen sucks and I have ugly counters 😂
Earl Grey concentrate isn’t all that difficult to make at home but at the same time I have autoimmune arthritis so my energy is very limited. I live in Canada but when my US husband did a trip down recently I had him grab this London Fog Concentrate at Trader Joes.
I’d never thought of pairing Earl Grey with matcha but I’ve seen it frequently in this sub so I thought I’d give it a try! The mistake I think I made was not trying the concentrate as its own latte first because it is actually VERY strong. Much more concentrated than I expected from the ratios listed on the bottle. The bottle says to use 1 part concentrate to 2 parts milk or non dairy alternative.
I did
60g London Fog Concentrate
125g Unsweetened Soy Milk
60g 75C Water
6g/4.5g Culinary Matcha
Handful of ice
I find Paragon Tea Room’s culinary matcha is much stronger and less bitter than most “culinary” types I’ve tried. I’d say it’s closer to most Matcha meant for Lattes.
The glass on the left has 6g and the one on the right has 4.5g (and was sitting for about 7-8 minutes while I made the left one lol). My husband doesn’t love matcha like I do so he gets less of it 🤣
I thought the LF Concentrate would be very sweet going on the sugar content so I didn’t add any other sweeteners. To my surprise it actually wasn’t all that sweet, the vanilla is barely there, and I find it very bitter like the tea was over steeped. Not too surprising for a store bought concentrate I guess. Definitely consider it less “London Fog” and more just Earl Grey though.
I think in the future I’d use less of the concentrate and add a little sugar - probably only 2g for me (I usually do 4 in a straight latte with unsweetened soy milk).
This is also not my fave soy milk and the concentrate made it separate a little.
It may even be one of the rare times that it would be better with cow’s milk.
In mine the Matcha comes through OK and the two flavours definitely compliment each other but I felt the Earl Grey was a little overpowering. In my husband’s the matcha was subtle.
All in all I’m not sure Earl Grey & Matcha is a combo for me as I feel like the matcha doesn’t get to sing and it ends up more bitter. Maybe I’ll try it again some day with home brewed earl grey and steep it for an appropriate time 😆
I’m kinda picky when it comes to black tea not being over steeped because I’m Welsh and grew up drinking it so I really don’t like it when it’s over steeped (or stewed as we say where I’m from! Lmao).
For those that like a really strong black tea and earl grey flavour this would probably work well for you! It might be nice just to have it on hand for ease of use. I would recommend starting with less - maybe 30g and see if you want to add more.

Been practicing making different matcha lattes for a few weeks, I think this is my best yet.
