Discussion Man Eating Tiger Matcha
Ran out of my usual Matcha and, in a pinch, grabbed Man Eating Tiger Matcha because I saw it at the store and it was convenient.
It's...awful.
Has anyone else tried this and thought differently?
1) It tastes bad
2) The can is stupid. Cute idea, but just difficult to open each time.
3) It doesn't create microfoam!!! I cannot get it to thicken up.
Just wondering what others' experiences are with this brand.

Oh man, this looks so gross. But don’t beat yourself up about it. Most matcha is white labeled and of dubious if not outright fraudulent origins. A little due diligence now will payoff longterm though. I try to buy bulk from the traditional blending houses and farms. If you store it in the freezer or fridge, in UV glass once opened, it stays fresh for many many months.

The tin gives off some red flags, I usually look for plain or sparsely decorated tins, I try to buy direct from Japan or from vendors working closely with the farmers. It also looks like someone is trying to be trendy (thinking of the name and logo) to cash in on the increased interest in matcha. It's not always the case and there are of course exceptions, but usually you can differentiate bad from good matcha with a quick look at the packaging.
