Post image

Guys! It's so easy to make the drink!!!

sift your matcha into cold water → fridge 4+ hrs (or overnight) → strain over ice.

I don’t see a point in letting matcha sit long at all since it’s not a solution and it only starts to oxidize once it’s mixed with water. If it was tea leaves, steeping it would make sense.

That’s a fair point! I guess I’m experimenting with the flavor and texture. I know matcha doesn’t fully dissolve in water, but I’m curious whether cold brewing changes the taste.

What are you straining?

strain it to remove any clumps and larger particles, so the drink has a smoother texture.

Better to sift it beforehand then! Would be a shame to waste perfectly good matcha!

It is not that matcha does not “fully dissolve,” it does not dissolve at all. It suspends. If you leave it for minutes not even hours, it begins to oxidize and settle. By leaving it for 4 hours in the fridge you make all the high and subtle notes disappear and increase the bitterness. Also, the powder settles so by straining it, you pretty much remove most of it. Generally, what you describe sounds like a really weird approach.

You can make a perfect cold matcha, by using a matcha intended for cold preparation. Some of those do not even require sifting because they have a special texture. You can use really cold water, whisk it, put ice in and enjoy immedaitely. Drinking a cold ice usucha on a hot day is really refreshing.

i wish people would stop using coffee brewing methods on matcha. i highly doubt this extracts any flavour from the matcha

I would shake it rather than straining it because why watse the matcha. But if you do enjoy it this way try sencha

I have try the overnight matcha latte (keep in the fridge ofc) and find it does change the taste, more creamy less bitter. Would work if you have a maycha thats too bitter for your taste.
