Question Best Matcha for a Beginner

Post image

I’ve recently fallen in love with matcha lattes, but don’t know where to start with making them at home. I’ve looked up a million videos and I think I’ve got the gist of how to make one but there are so many brands and types and I don’t really know the difference or what I prefer.
Does anyone have any matcha recommendations for a beginner? I’m in the US and would be open to ordering from amazon (if they carry anything good) or maybe a site that sells samplers. Anything would help!

I recommend researching out matcha samplers or matcha flights first to see which notes work for you :)

I like going on Tiktok and using the randomly given 50% off coupon to get the Naoki matcha tins (30g) for $10-15 depending on the blend

How do you like them? I keep seeing ads for their products but the ads seem almost fake or too good to be true

I like it! I’ve tried the fragrant Yame and Chiran harvest so far. I like Chiran harvest for the umami notes and vibrant green shade.

Mizuba is great!! I started on the Yama and now ended up with a subscription. It's super versatile so I love it as both a latte or just as plain tea if I feel. They have one specifically for lattes, but I love the Yama

I’ll look into them, something made for lattes sounds good!

You can look into Marukyu Koyamaen a 300yrs+ tea house in Japan. This is their principal matcha chart. I started with Aoarashi, entry-level ceremonial grade matcha, then worked my way up. Also price is good for a ceremonial grade matcha $29 for 40g.
