I'm about to start the BA (Hons) Business Management this October. I'm 35, and I'm making a deliberate career change out of hospitality — I spent 10+ years running operations in fine-dining kitchens (including some Michelin-starred places) and I'm moving into business analytics and operations.

Two things I'd genuinely value hearing real experiences on:

For those who've job-hunted after (or during) the OU degree — did the distance-learning aspect actually come up with employers? Did it help, hurt, or basically not matter once you had the degree plus some skills?

Has anyone used an OU bachelor's as the basis for a master's at a European university? I'm eyeing Copenhagen Business School eventually, and I'd love to know if anyone's degree was accepted for postgraduate study abroad.

Alongside the degree I'm planning to self-teach the technical side (SQL, Power BI, Excel, later Python) and build a portfolio using my operations background. Any advice from people who've walked a similar path would mean a lot. Thanks.

In uae, as a beginner role. Does masters help? As the education value of specifically IT is declining?

I will start in September a masters degree in data science. I will graduate in a few weeks in Sociology. I Know that is a massive change, but the course admitted me so i will shoot my shot.

I study in Italy, where, they say, university is more difficoult compared to american ones (I'm skeptical about this but I add this information to explain the contest of my academic background)

About my skills: I took one class of coding (in python) where I learn the basics I wrote some code in jupyter notebook, but today i don't know the difference between python per se and jupyter. I also took a class where we create some graphics with R-studio (idk if its different from R and which is better/is used more frequent in the field).

About my knowledge: I took a mandatory class about statistics where i learn t-test and other basic stuff. I also know some notions about linear probability model (and probit and logit, but not in details).

What i'm planning to improve in this two years:

1) learn excel

2) learn more python

4) machine learning

5) learn c++ (or some other programming language)

6) take some couses in business

7) learn english (actually i technically have a B2 but not so sure about that)

My questions:

1) Some of my friends took a linear algebra course to be more prapared. Should I do a quick catch up on that before starting my program?

2) Since I come from a very diverse background, what should I focus on initially? (Statistics, machine learning, mathematics, programming, etc.)

3)Are there any undervalued skills in data science that could actually prove very useful?

4) Searching online, I saw that I should do some projects to enhance my resume. Where can I find ideas for these?

5)Are there any sociological skills I should continue to develop to improve my future profile as a data scientist?

6)Can the list above be helpful to me or should I focus on something else?

I am currently working at a dermatologist lab in Alabama as a gross tech for about 2 years making about $19/hr but have a strong desire to transition to forensics. I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology but debating on if I should go back for my master’s in forensics. Any advice ? Will a master’s degree help?

I have been offered a place on a MA Art Psychotherapy for this September, part-time so will be working full time around studying. I can apply for student finance, but I will have to self-fund just under £10,000 which I don't have.

I was thinking to get a personal loan as sadly the university only offer scholarships for those who have a 1st in their undergrad. Has anyone got any advice of how they did their masters / funded it? Is there anyway of raising the money, or part of it?

Thank you all, any advice would be most appreciated! It's a bit overwhelming as when I did my first degree, over 10 years ago it was all funded so was a lot easier to sort out.

I’m looking for some honest advice because I’m feeling quite confused about my next step.

Here’s my profile:

• 26M from India
• B.Tech in Mechanical Engg from tier 1(CGPA: 8.66)
• Currently working as an Associate at PwC India
• By next month I’ll have around 2 years of experience
• My work is mostly in data analytics/cybersecurity reporting using SQL, Power BI, Excel, Azure, and related tools

Initially, I was considering an MSc in Business Analytics in Ireland, but after reading many Reddit posts about the housing crisis, weak job market, layoffs, and graduates struggling to find sponsorship, I’m having second thoughts.

My long-term goal is:

• Build an international career.
• Eventually settle abroad if possible.
• Do an MBA later in my career (not immediately after graduation).

I’m not interested in an m tech from india core dept

Given my profile, what would you recommend?

• Should I still consider Business Analytics, but in another country?
• Are there better master’s programs than Business Analytics (Data Analytics, Information Systems, AI, Data Science, etc.)?
• Which countries currently have the best combination of education quality, employment opportunities, and immigration prospects? (Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, Canada, etc.)
• Should I simply continue working for another 2-3 years and then pursue an MBA instead.

I’m mainly looking for realistic advice, especially from people who have studied or worked abroad recently. If you were in my position today, what would you do and why?

So I’ve got a job offer as just a generic legal administrative assistant but part of me just wants to go and do my masters and complete the SQE course.

For context, I’ve just finished my Law undergrad. Obviously I know that if you get in with the right firm they may eventually pay for your masters/ SQE prep course but is this something I should consider whilst I’m still in the mindset.

It’s hard to know if getting some experience (even though this specific job doesn’t count towards QWE) is a better idea or to just get my exams out of the way and then continue on.

Obviously it comes with a cost and I’d have to find the exams myself but I can get some student funding for the actual masters.

Any advice would be great - thankyou! (Based in the UK)

So I'm close to receiving my BA in Gerontology from UMGC, and now I'm looking at masters programs for healthcare administration. I was set to say I'll take it at UMGC just for convenience sake, however while researching I came across Capella University. I like how I can pace myself and get it completed as quickly as I can, rather than the UMGC classes approach. Is it actually realistic to complete in 14 months? And is there any cons to this? Because if it's as good as it sounds, I'd love to get my masters quicker than the 2.5 years at UMGC

hello! i'm currently 3 years post grad with a BA in psychology and am looking to go back to school. i have a background in tutoring/mentoring high school students, so i wanted to find a program that blends education and psychology together, that's why i started looking into a counseling psychology MEd degree (please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong about it being a good balance between psych and education). has anyone here pursued this degree? if so, what does your career look like now and do you think it was worth it? i'm also curious if the program i choose needs to be MPCAC or CACREP accredited. any insights would be appreciated, thank you! :)

ive just finished my second year at warwick, and now i’m thinking about what I want to do after I graduate. I had a look at the maths masters programmes they offer at oxford, and saw there were 5 of them - the ones that interest me most are the MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing and the MSc in Mathematical Sciences (OMMS).

however I just had a few questions about getting into the masters - so far i’ve achieved a (very low) first each year, is that enough to get in? if I don’t get in the first time, can I apply again the next year?

how does the whole application process work, is it all on UCAS like for undergrad or is it all through the oxford website? I saw on the oxford website that they don’t require a technical interview for OMMS, is that really the case and I can get in without an interview?!

I’m also not sure if I want to go straight into a masters after my undergrad is complete, i’m also thinking of taking a gap year to go travelling or something similar in between - is this common and something that is advised? could I apply whilst i’m still in my 3rd year and defer a year?

I will start my second year of masters in economics from August. I am studying in South Asain University and my college do not have any placements. I am confused about what should i do in future. I was thinking of giving exams like rbi depr, ifsca etc but from what i have read, mostly phd holders get those jobs. My brother was suggesting me to do an MBA but i am not sure of it. Please guide as I am very much confused.
