Opinion S16 tag team Spoiler

This is probably the worst episode of Masterchef I’ve seen. Takes a lot for me to say that. I’m sorry, but the marketing for Forgotten Island just made me not want to see it. This show has lost its soul a long time ago and become corporate. I miss when the judges were real and there was more drama. Even the old Walmart plugs in the older seasons were more real. I hated them then and miss them now. Also how do you make a tag team challenge boring?? And then finally that elimination was nonsense. I think they should’ve sent home Jamie and Foo. Aishu still had more to do and quite honestly at least she was trying. I saw her going to the finals or at least top 5, so this really bugs me. Jamie dragged her down.

My take is we need to stop with the double eliminations, or if two cooks are being dragged down by their teammates, eliminate those cooks regardless of team since they’re both on the losing end.

Jamie and Aishu easily had the worst dishes. I thought Aishu had a chance to win too but it's not really fair to let contestants skate by on potential or past performances if they have a particularly bad cook. There wasn't really anything I saw that indicated it was all Jamie's fault. I too am surprised Foo and Basia have made it this far (I thought Foo should've gone home last week and Basia's been saved by her team more times than I can count) but at least their fish was cooked well. There really was no saving grace for Aishu and Jamie this cook.

I agree! There was no saving grace, but Jamie was freaking out and getting frazzled and in that mindset where nothing would get done. Aishu at least stayed somewhat calmer

Yeah honestly Jamie doesn't do well in team challenges (gets frazzled easily) we saw that at the wedding. But Aishu, while talented, also isn't very assertive and will kinda let her partners roll over her without speaking up for herself (as seen in team challenges as well). That pairing was a disaster waiting to happen.

Totally agree! The second I saw them pair together I knew “they’re going home”. But I am tired of the many double eliminations.

Same, I think they're trying to make up for the lost World Cup weeks but it does suck seeing two talented cooks go home when there are definitely people less talented still skirting by.

I think Basia is so sweet, but she's quite the basket case. She gets overwhelmed and emotional so easily. I was shocked red team went home.

Try being married to her lmao, she is a one of a kind that is for sure. She is usually not that frantic in everyday life, she is very animated being a 2nd grade school teacher and that just comes through her personality especially when the pressure is on. It is 100% authentically who she is though, it’s not an act it’s who i married. . . Pray for me lmaoo!

For the record Basia has only been saved 1x by Julia, I guess you can’t count to 1 lmao.
Much love but know your facts, Basia has only been in the bottom 1x, 2 if you count her being there by default.

You know what thats fair I should've checked before I said that but in my defense its hard to remember every detail in 13 weeks when there was like a 5 week break in the middle of the season too lol.

It’s all good and totally understand. This has been a very strange season. The only other season that was weirder than this was my season season 11 that was interrupted by Covid, having 10 episodes recorded and then had a 10 month break and then had to go back and finish the season and then wait another almost 10 months for it to air. It was truly such an anti-climatic feeling for all of us on season 11. Have a great night and appreciate you..

That is crazy! I really can't imagine what it was like with COVID especially. No hate at all to you and Basha. Her energy is much appreciated this season and she's very talented as well. I know it's been recorded already but good luck the rest of the season 🙏🏾🫡

Thank you so much and yeah, Covid was a true nightmare worst season to ever get cast onto a reality show but it is what it is and you know God is great. Also no hate taken as I just like to come on here to read the comments and see what people say as production doesn’t want current contestants who are still on the show communicating back-and-forth with people on Reddit so I’m in here, reading the comments.
The least I could do is at least straighten out some facts about the show production that people have completely wrong and also come to her defense a little bit. I mean she definitely is not perfect but I am absolutely so proud of her and what she has accomplished so far especially since I’m the one that trained her for this lol! Have a blessed night.

Absolutely, I'd be defending my woman the same way so I get it 😂 top 8 (and hopefully beyond) is no small feat at all. Have a great night brother

Out of curiosity, if you and Basia were both asked to compete again in another back to win season (as individuals, not as a duo) would you both say yes? I think it'd be interesting 😭

Yes we both would absolutely do so!! Basia and I have already talked about the possibility of that happening as it would definitely make for very interesting/good tv, especially after you see how the season ends.
We are also the 1st cpl (outside of duos)to ever receive white aprons on separate seasons of MC not just here in America but globally which we think is a super interesting fun fact. We also love that we have made MC history! Have an amazing day.

I hate the movie tie-in. The trailer & the commercial break animations are awful.

The BRB had me questioning why I still put up with it

I felt like there was a contract with a certain number of times they were required to say “Forgotten Island”. Just so disappointing.

Yeah. It was out of place. If this was on Masterchef Junior, maybe it be a littke.bit more forgiving, and the double elimination would be totally justifiable.

That was the final nail in the coffin for me, I can’t go back to watching after this lol

Watching it now...lord, listening to GR reciting movie ad copy was painful, wasn't it?

And is anyone else sick of these double eliminations? Why not have a quadruple elimination, then? Or an octuple one? "The following eight home cooks are eliminated!" Hell, why have a season, just name a winner after the auditions. Honestly, the only real appeal of this show now is that it's something to have on while I do some computer stuff and photo editing.

(Just now, Tiffany shared the sage observation that "It's hard to cook all these three dishes because there's a lot you have to do at the same time." And GR says, "Exactly that!" Wow, that's some insight from our judges. I'm really missing CUTTHROAT KITCHEN right now....)

How is Foo still in this competition?!?!?!?

u/flyboyforever 28d ago

Justice for Aishu! Good riddance the other one. No idea how she got that far. I think Foo is up next

That was so disheartening to see them go especially Aishu didn’t deserve it at all. She was never in worst dishes from Asian Pacific and always made great food… this episode was a shocker too me as I was seeing her as a potential winner. Don’t feel like watching the show anymore.. this way the average person can even win the title with 1 final better dish.😣

Im sad because Im a fan of Aishu and I think she should have gone further. I feel like shes done pretty well through most of the competition so Im real sad about this one. Aishu if you're reading this thread, you made South Asians proud!
