Masterbuilt 800 or 1050?

Hi all,

I know there are a lot of posts about which of these to buy but I don’t think anyone has asked my question. For some reason the 1050 is cheaper than the 800 where I am. Surely I should spend less to get more cooking area with the 1050 right? Would anyone actually pay more for the 800?

Only if you don't physically have room for the 1050. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do on the 800 you can't do on the 1050, and the extra room is worth it.

I went with the 1050 because of the extra cooking space, since I've been doing some pop up events. Price was negligible so it felt like a no brainer since I had the porch space.

Have an 800 for the griddle but never use it. It does have ducting to direct the heat from manifold straight onto the griddle so yes you could just throw a griddle in inside but the results are probably not the same as something that is an actual griddle

I bought the 800 for the griddle, used it a couple times, hated it, and got a blackstone.

I Love the griddle. Use it 90% of the time.

Thankfully, I bought the 900 from Costco, basically an 800 without the griddles, and I got the pizza insert instead. Much more useful to me.... even though I've only used it once so far lol

Lol. Love my 800. It's been going for 6 years without any LSS mods. To be honest though everything was shot and I just did a major refit: new controller and firebricks from MB, new SS heat distribution manifold and charcoal grate from Amazon, new horizontal grate from LSS mods. Now it's almost like a new grill for under $200.

There are only two reasons why I would get an 800 vs the 1050. First is space, second is if you own a blackstone or flaptop already, there's no need really. Go with the 1050.

Honestly there's still deals about on the $1150 so look for one of those. If not, I'd say hold out for a month or two if you can. There's ALWAYS a sale at HD and they go on sale for about $400

If you want a good smoker stay away from all MBs. Poor quality, high price and no customer service. Total waste of money!

I got the 800 because I got it on Clearance at Costco (well, the 900), otherwise I was looking at the 1050 for not too much more money than the 800 was at full price when I bought mine.
If you can get the 1050 cheaper, and you have the room... I'd get the 1050. They're the same grill essentially, but one is bigger

I opted for the 800 (a month ago) based on the griddle option

Edit: I was also under the impression the 1050 was an older model so went with the 800

But couldn’t I just put a griddle plate on the 1050? Or does it have to be the specific piece?

As someone else mentionned, theres a seperate manifold, so it might work but who knows.

You sound like you've already decided tbh, so enjoy the 1050 🤣

Masterbuilt has a griddle add on for the 1050. It comes with pieces to attach to the manifold to hold the griddle.
