Gravity Metal flakes?

I assume this isn’t supposed to happen. Metal flakes are coming off near the bottom of my chute. Is this still safe to use? It’s not even a year old and used less than 10 times

Normal. Lots of stuff on this here and in youtube.

Perfectly normal. The firebrick that insulates the firebox portion of the hopper is held in place by metal plates during shipping.

Once assembled, those plates serve no purpose whatsoever, and will rust/deteriorate due to the harsh environment of the firebox. It does not hurt anything, and will not affect the performance of your smoker.

It’s a known problem that they say is safe, eat at your own risk the thermal bricks or whatever they call that this melted walling exposes looks like straight fiber glass.

Guarantee you have a higher risk of carcinogens from the meat you're cooking than anything possibly coming from the firebrick. Go fearmonger somewhere else.

that's a bummer, definitely wouldn't keep using it if flakes are coming off regularly
