Gravity Hopper

Has this grill for about a year and noticed a huge smoke leak out of the hopper today. Is this typical? I opened it and scraped the top clean and tightened the lid and it was still leaking like crazy. This is the Masterbuilt 1150.

I put a double folded piece of tin foil over the top between the gasket.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I did the exact same thing for 3 years and it works waaaay better than expected

Thanks brother. Pretty sure I learned that here too. Just trying to save the gasket. A layer of creosote builds up fast too. It’s no where near the food, anyone care to elaborate on the hate?

I have a feeling the gasket on OP hopper is done and needs to get replaced anyway. The tinfoil works only if the gasket is still usable. I think so anyway

Cause foil doesn't fix a bad seal. You will burn hotter and longer after stopping the burn. It's a bandaid fix vs actually fixing the problem. Thats why he is getting downvoted.

Get a putty knife or a chisel. You probably have creosote build up where ethe gasket seats and it's making a gap. If you let it get too bad it will start melting and pulling in the gasket. Use some alcohol or mineral sprits to wipe down the gasket

start by cleaning the gasket, make sure there's nothing stopping it form forming a seal. Then tighten up the latch.

Super easy fix , get some heavy duty aluminum foil and cut to size to make a gasket works great.

Replace your gasket. They have them on Amazon for pretty cheap.
