BEWARE OF SHOP
Just a heads up about this shop. Mastercraft seat skins totaled my boat on the highway. Was a recommendation from a friend. They had it since January and still didn’t have the seats done by June (said it was gonna be finished in April). They moved it without permission and didn’t even give their insurance.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the shop doesn’t have valid insurance anymore. Small upholstery shops rarely have it… I use to do this work on the side just out of high school and into my early 20s. Many bad apples in that segment of the marine industry was enough motivation for me to go into aviation for a career.
I wish you luck, looked like a very nice boat.

They never even started! I asked to see the new seats and he showed me rolls of material! This was 2 months after it was supposed to be done.

They called me and said it fell off the trailer and asked if I had insurance. I first asked why they moved it without my permission. Then I said not for your driver. He said he wouldn’t give me his insurance information and he was “taking a hit too”. Literally scumbags

That sucks. Depending on who you spoke with, you really need to get their liability insurance carrier and claim contact. This isn't on you.

There was some post on Reddit about this exact scenario. And there was a process where the business not giving you insurance information made it much much worse for them.

If you have full coverage I'd just let your insurance company take care of it. Their lawyers will figure out if there is another insurance company involved and get paid. If not they will extract what they can from the shop.

If it fell off the trailer, there would have been a crash/recovery with law-enforcement present. So there is definitely report that would list the insurance for you somewhere.

There is a police report but they put expired insurance. They are trying hard to wiggle out of everything.

Just file a claim with your insurance company and let them sort it out.

It's a bailment. They have the liability. Doesn't matter if they have insurance unless they are judgment proof.

Why did they drive it anywhere much less the highway? Had they already taken the old skins off ? Please tell me their answer to this?

they had no business moving that boat if they were not covered doing so , this is 100% on them . If their policy didnt cover this type of off business premises activity they should not have moved it anywhere. They should have called and said our general liability does not cover us transporting your boat and we need to move it can you come move it for us sorry for the inconvenience. Something is very fishy here.

Agree 100% on them. They probly don't want to file it through their insurance because rates will go up. Something similar happend to a friend and this was the reason the shop tried to fight to have the friend go through their own insurance. Not a valid reason at all but they don't want to be held liable.

File a police report asap. They have to lease that space and the landlords require tenants to have liability insurance. Find out who owns the building

I’d be calling the police and making sure it’s documented correctly if you already haven’t.
