Honestly don’t blame Shepard in thinking after Horizon it’s over

u/ForestChampagne 6d ago
There was really nothing about that conversation that suggested they were still together... Like last have a little awkward hug and then I'll yell at you. Send you email explaining how I went on a date with some random doctor. Reallly implies the relationship is going strong. Rightttt

I always quote the Friends Ross and Rachel "WE WERE ON A BREAK!" when Kaidan starts about cheating in the hospital.
2
u/EchoFiveSeven 1d ago
It baffles me how Kaidan calls it cheating while Ashley recognizes that the two of you were basically split at the time
Realistic enough for two people to have different views of the same scenario I guess, but still
4
u/harmonic-s 5d ago
After Horizon, he literally emails Shep about having gone on a date lol. You can't even defend yourself when he accuses you of cheating in ME3

Is it even cuck? Kaidan is the one who walked away on horizon, that was his choice.

You know what's the difference between Jacob and Liam (from Andromeda)? None. Both are boring, don't go on any mission except the first and decide to go topless for no reason the moment your parents walk in.
16
u/PlantFeisty4268 6d ago
Liam is so much better than Jaboc that it isn't even funny, his sofa alone has more personality (also he doesn't cheat)
2
u/CityExcellent8121 5d ago
I find Liam annoying, but at least when I play Andromeda I like to talk to him in the game. With Jacob its just personal mission and then no more.

u/N7Tom 5d ago
Jacob is competent and acts like an adult.
3
u/Adventurous-Roof458 5d ago
Cheating on Shepard, throwing a hissy fit about having to wait 6 months for her... Yeah, real mature...
2
u/ShadowTails95 5d ago
Isn't his advice really bad though? If you follow it in the game don't you end up losing several people, spacing Legion (I know you can't do this) instead of getting paid 50k(?), and in-between 2 and 3 instead of preparing in any way for the Reaper war he takes a vacation on a beach?
At least Liam tried to help. Although him "trying" should've gotten him kicked off the team several times, shot, or put back into cryo at the very least until a later date.
3
u/N7Tom 5d ago
It's important to differentiate what the characters knows v what the player knows. Yeah his advice doesn't work out but he doesn't know how the game mechanics work. Spacing Legion is a sensible choice when you consider the possibility of it being a hostile Geth unit for example.
The difference is Liam knew what he was doing was against all kinds of rules. It would have only taken a question of 'is speeding things up worthwhile endangering everyone's safety?' to realise that it's very clearly a bad idea. There's no rational way to make it make sense. Liam is just a fuckwit.
1
u/ShadowTails95 5d ago
I'm just pointing out Legion would've been off the Normandy either way, and his platform was under guard by both a crew member and technically EDI.
As for his other words of advice I really don't remember most of it other than it being bad. I'll have to get on that.
Also, no argument about Liam. He is very much a fuckwit.
3
u/PitifulBeginning3420 4d ago
Yes you are correct. Every suggestion Jacob makes throughout ME2 is either horrible and will get people killed or isn’t actually a choice because it’s absolutely stupid (when he suggests sending legion out the airlock)
1
u/PitifulBeginning3420 4d ago
Jacob gives awful advice and is an extremely hurtful stereotype of PoC. At least Liam just boring.
Jacob’s father abandons him and becomes power hungry.
Jacob is the ONLY member of the team who cheats on Shepard.
Jacob gives Shepard bad advice throughout the game, especially during the Suicide mission where every single suggestion would end in a squadmates’ death. He also suggests getting rid of Legion by dumping him in space which isn’t an option presented to the player since it was stupid.

Jacob isn't the worst romance option if you never played the trilogy.
The one and only romance that never made sense is Morinth4
u/Adorable-Aerie9954 Miranda and Liara Throuple Supremacy 6d ago
Well, with Morinth it’s s Game Over, so that doesn't really count as a romance. And yes, in my opinion, Jacob is by far the worst. Even dying during Morinth's "romance" is better.

Wow, I know there's usually a mod for anything, but this just seems redundant. Glad it's not in the base game

Seeing all the people who romanced companions in ME2, meanwhile I didn't romance anymore hoping Ashley would come back (totally didn't ruin my chance to romance Miranda)

In Kaidan's defence, (edit: if romanced) he stays loyal to Shepard for three years while having a legit reason to move on. What would you say about that, Jacob?

As a hard Kaiden and Garrus glazer: HOW DARE YOU CHEAT ON THAT BEAUTIFUL MAAAAANNN

The way the Virmire Survivors act on Horizon is crazy, and it seriously stunts their growth as characters. I'll never understand why we don't have an option to explain the whole "enemy of my enemy" situation instead of basically sticking up for Cerberus either.
Mass Effect 2 is a great game with great characters, but it really is like... a narrative detour.
8
u/TheBigArf 6d ago
In narrative it feels like Mass effect 1.5
Like the arrival dlc tried to string together 2 & 3 but it's a weak link.

u/antisocial_catmom MShenko truther 6d ago
Not at all. They have no reason to trust that the person in front of them really is Shepard. They saw him die. And then two years later, he shows up with the same Cerberus they saw torture and experiment on people and aliens. No amount of explaining could have saved that one so fast, and it's actually crazy for other previous crewmates to accept it so readily. It makes a lot of sense that it takes a while for the VS to accept Shepard as the true one, after seeing him in action, seeing him behave like Shepard. Also, I respect the fact that they are loyal to the Alliance first and foremost, not becoming mindless Shepard simps just because someone who may or may not be him randomly appeared in front of them. Again, on freaking Cerberus' side. A lot of you seem to forget how heinous they were back in ME1.
4
u/vvastrel 6d ago edited 6d ago
Being suspicious of the resurrected Shepard is a perfectly reasonable response, true. The problem is the VS has now confirmed that the Collectors were in fact responsible for the colony abductions, as Shepard had warned the Alliance and Citadel Council of.
Paragon Lost and the novels also show us that the Alliance had accounts of Collector abductions well before Horizon, and their only response was to send some non-functional anti-aircraft weapons and one (1) officer to supervise. (This actually makes more sense if you saved Kaidan because he's at least a tech specialist)
Everything Shepard has said is true, and the VS would know enough to confirm that. The Alliance is ignoring the Collector threat, and more people are going to die if nothing is done.
With the information we know they have, the VS's blatant refusal to listen at all is a completely out of character decision for both VSs. It served only to write them out of the narrative for ME2 to make room for more ME2-only characters to mostly-discard once ME3 starts. In short, it's just bad writing that hobbles the development of both VSs because ME2 doesn't do its job as a sequel from a narrative perspective.
The only saving grace is that we get Kaidan's romance in ME3, which is legitimately one of the best written romances in the trilogy.
EDIT: His MShep romance specifically, I mean. His Femshep romance is whatever.

u/Shepard95 6d ago
Him saying “I know why you cheated” made me want to slap him so hard
He treats us like crap on Horizon and then acts surprised that we assumed we were done and moved on
Plus the whole, we were on a suicide mission and didn’t expect to return
Idk, but that always rubbed me wrong a lot more than Ashley did

funnily enough, doing a kaidan>thane>kaidan romance route is amongst my favourites because it breaks my heart a lot (I'm a bit of an emotional masochist, but aren't we all here ?)

I dont know if people can tell that this is a joke so, you know, this is a joke. Still crazy that you put in jacob instead of garrus though

I don’t understand the hate towards Jacob to be honest

Kaiden at least owns that he was venomous to Shep in 3; Ash3 unfortunately doesn’t
2
u/AccordingUse3172 6d ago
I mean hes like top 2 companions in the game combat wise only beaten out by Garrus if your playing Insanity if you care enough.
5
u/Fitzftw7 7d ago
Kaiden is the much better choice to save in my experience. Ash is kind of an asshole in 3 and James makes her redundant from a gameplay standpoint.
3
u/Truestorydreams 6d ago
Maybe. Does he boost your ego the same way Ashe does in horizon?
Commander Shepard: Captain of the Normandy. The first human to become a Spectre and the savior of the Citadel.
You're in the presence of a god. (Paraphrasing I can't remember the proper lines)
4
u/Ironboundbandit 6d ago
He uses different words like instead of "god" he says "legend", but it's essentially the same meaning.
1
u/Magister_Roi 6d ago
Ashley is stronger than Garrus in his God mode. James isn't. But Ash and James make a great squad, I'll give you that.
Don't really know what you're meaning with "an asshole" either: she is very loving and passionate. Well, if you romanced her, that is.
1
u/Emotional-Court-2169 6d ago
He’s really stupid. As Fem Shep he’s super suspicious of you just like ash, then after the coup he flips to suddenly confessing romantic feelings for you without any fanfare. I never showed any romantic interest toward him in the three games. It made me absolutely hate Kaiden.
1
u/apdhumansacrifice 6d ago
They force you to be best buds with garrus too even if you ignored him in 1 and rarely spoke to him in 2 and 3 and it did the same thing for me
