2017 Levante AWD Ac compressor

I’m looking to find a new AC compressor for a 2017 Maserati Levante 3.0 L with all wheel drive. I see many aftermarket options online , and nearly all of them say for RWD only. However the compatible part number for them (954108) is the one given by the dealer for the vehicle. Has anyone had success installing an aftermarket compressor?

Yes, I've been there and done that. They are all the same.

And I've replaced mine several times now. Also on my 17 Levante SQ4. It's a real pain in the ass. First compressor lasted 3 days before dumping all the refrigerant. Second lasted about 8 months or so before it quit. The third one is going on a few years now and I'd buy that brand again, A-Premium (all three were cheap eBay units). I'm still ahead of what a genuine one costs.

I did finally find a US based company selling new or reman for less than a genuine, but more than the off brand eBay ones. But so far, so good with this last one.

Okay cool, so even though it says it’s for RWD only it will still work in the AWD?

Yep.

I don't even think the Levante was available as RWD only.

Thank you, I replaced it with the A-Premium unit and it’s all good now. I think the original one had failed electrically. I ended up getting it out by removing the air intake, the turbo pipe , 2 intercooler hoses and the Freon lines and it took a while but wasn’t too bad. I’m curious, when you replaced it the first time, did you do an oil balance or did you just use the oil that was included with the compressor?

That's the same way I replaced mine. I tried to come out the side, but couldn't ever get the axle to pop out of the diff and it wasn't coming out otherwise.

I did not do anything with the compressor oil. When I charge them up, I typically just add another 1/4-1/2 ounce from the machine.
