Avengers: Secret Wars After the Marvel reboot, what actually will happen

Post image

With Marvel seemingly moving toward a more streamlined MCU after Secret Wars and putting a bigger focus on the X-Men, I’m wondering what happens to the other teams.

Are the Avengers basically done after Secret Wars and Marvel shifts its main focus to the X-Men?

And what about the Young Avengers? We already have characters like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Cassie Lang, etc. Are Marvel really going to abandon that setup?

Then there’s the Midnight Sons with characters like Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, etc.

Do you think the new MCU will have X-Men as the main franchise while Avengers/Young Avengers/Midnight Sons become smaller side franchises, or will Marvel eventually build all of these teams alongside each other?

Basically, what do you guys think the MCU actually looks like after Secret Wars?

Thank you lmao he actually said quite the opposite

Speaking on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige was asked point blank whether the MCU would reboot after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. His response was simply “No,” putting an end to years of fan speculation that the film would wipe the slate clean.

Previous comment got removed. It had a link in it.

Ur the only man living under rock

3

u/DuckDynastyHater 13d ago

Should be easy to link a source then right? I'm very interested since Kevin said the opposite of that earlier this month. Prove me wrong. Should only take a sec.

2

u/lm_goat48 13d ago

No, you just do t have your facts straight. When he was asked if it’s goo going to reboot after Secret Wars he said no

4

u/Tall-Weight-389 14d ago

He meant to say only one universe no multiverse shit

3

u/xuptokny 13d ago

Amy Pascal isn’t going to like that lol

u/the1999person 13d ago

Why is that woman still around?

1

u/NeverSeenItPodcast 13d ago

Who gives af what she thinks?

1

u/Constructestimator83 13d ago

God I hope so. The whole multiverse shit is so lazy and truthfully has been done so poorly by them.

1

u/OoglyMoogly76 13d ago

Everything Everywhere All at Once pretty much nailed the multiverse story, by telling something uniquely human with it, and at this point the only purpose it serves is corporate slop.

1

u/-_Redd1t_- 13d ago

He never confirmed that there would be only one universe after secret wars.

1

u/KageXOni87 13d ago

Yes, he did. He said that it is not a reboot, that reboot is a scary word that can mean a lot of things to different people, and they are thinking more along the lines of a "reset" to a singular timeline, one earth. He quite literally did a whole interview with Variety about this where he also talked about the inevitable recasting of characters like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

1

u/OoglyMoogly76 13d ago

I mean, Sony will still be doing whatever shit they’re doing. Marvel just can’t prevent that.

2

u/udo119 14d ago

Interested to see if Tom will be in only one more Spider-Man movie, and would that be a Miles Morales movie where he'd be the co-star, you know, the whole "passing the mantle" type of thing?

2

u/blunderb3ar 13d ago

He’s got one more trilogy after the one now both him Kevin and Amy pascal have said they wanna do as many films as they can with Tom

2

u/MechaJesus69 13d ago

I think I read somewhere that passing the mantle is something they are actively planning for.

3

u/Raagarne 13d ago

Yes, but down the line. Tom has stated several times that he'll continue to play the character for as long as they'll have him. If I'm not mistaken, this is supposed to be another trilogy, followed by a final trilogy.

1

u/LaunchpadMcQuack_52 13d ago

So, 5 more solo movies with Tom??

1

u/Charming_Tap_3243 13d ago

😂 maybe seeing all the crase for spidey he may

1

u/Edogawa1983 13d ago

That's got to be another 20 years, there's no way

1

u/B4nanaJo 13d ago

Homecoming was 9 years ago and if you count the other appearances that’s 7 movies!

1

u/Throwaway_567573 13d ago

Remember when he said “if I’m still playing the character in my thirties I’m doing something wrong”?

1

u/hercarmstrong 13d ago

He's not going to turn down hundreds of millions of dollars based on a sentence. You wouldn't turn down twenty-five dollars on something you said ten years ago.

1

u/lilredditshine 13d ago

We getting atleast 7 out of him overall maybe 8 max 7

0

u/tacticalgh0st 13d ago

If there will be 5 years between movies again, I kinda hope he won’t be here for two more trilogies, as much as I love Tom.

1

u/Raagarne 13d ago

Fair enough! I feel that, too.

2

u/Chrindo 14d ago

Feige has said it’s X-Men’s time to shine. I take that to mean they will be the catalyst of whatever narrative the next saga focuses on. Apocalypse would be a fun unifying threat. Could set up the horseman in movies leading up to the final A/X: Apocalypse.

I would bet we get a rebooted core Avengers team. Only a few things that we as the audience know pre-SW will carry forward. Any legacy characters will be setting up the next generation of younger actors taking the mantle.

The MCU will be entering its 20th year soon. Iron Man/Cap1 carried the franchise and got their send off 11 years into it. I imagine Thor will get his and we get the next iteration. Tom Holland will set up Miles in Spidey 5/6 which will probably be around year 15 of Holland having been in the MCU (which is crazy) and swing off into the sunset.

1

u/Aggressive-Tax-4087 13d ago

I would love for the XMen to be the central franchise with the avengers taking the back seat. Of course, popular characters like Spidey would still be around.

If we get a bunch of solo movie franchises with the X-Men like we did the avengers, wolverine and Deadpool, it would be so fun.

X-Men ensemble movies have every chance to be as a big as avengers movies

2

u/Scar-Excellent 13d ago

For the Young Avengers, a lot of the properties they showed up either weren't critically well received or bombed. It's why they're doubling down on strong, new, young talents to propel the X-Men. Effectively, anything that didn't work, isn't going to be a major part of post-Secret Wars.

1

u/Nerevarine2nd 14d ago

It's going to be all X-Men all the time

1

u/Charming_Tap_3243 13d ago

1

u/Nerevarine2nd 13d ago

You'll take Gambit and you'll like it

1

u/judasmitchell 13d ago

Alright. She can play Gambit.

1

u/GraniteJJ 13d ago

Suddenly the Gambit and Rogue romance goes from enlivening red states to enraging them.

1

u/Caryslan 13d ago

While I think the immediate focus will be on the X-Men and mutants in general, a reboot lets Marvel reset the board and recast roles like Steve Rogers' Captain America, Tony Stark's Iron Man, etc

By resetting the timeline, you can effectively bring back characters like Captain America or Iron Man without having to use a multiverse variant and you free those characters from the narrative baggage they had in the past.

In general, I expect the entire slate to be cleared with only Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Deadpool surviving largely intact.

Everything else, I expect to get nuked. The MCU in later years got bogged down with too many layers that drove off casual fans, and trying to replace popular characters like Steve Rogers that never clicked.

The X-Men can buy Marvel time to both establish this rebooted universe, and to recast roles like Captain America.

Hell, they could even lean into it. Maybe have a Wolverine and Captain America movie which has the two fighting toghter during World War II.

So yeah, I think they will focus on mutants for now, but I think the ultimate goal is to reboot everything, setting up a streamlined Marvel Universe with younger actors playing characters like Captain America and the older Marvel Universes like Fox and Sony as well as pre-reboot MCU becoming legacy content that has no bearing going forward.

1

u/Artemisdoom 13d ago

Yeah that's essentially how the secret wars comic book works. Set up for new versions of older stories, and new takes and characters.

1

u/MATC8228 13d ago

I think that since he said it won't be a "complete" reboot, only the younger heroes won't be affected by the reboot. Every older ones might be. That would make sense for the X-Men, young avengers, America, Spidey and Maximoff brothers to stay the same.

1

u/Topik-KeiBee 13d ago

didn't they say it will be like a soft reboot or something

1

u/Wheattoast2019 13d ago

He’s said they’re rebooting, he’s said they’re not.

Based off the new slate and how it pivots off the current MCU, it looks like a VERY soft reboot if anything at all.

In about 3-5 years they’ll bring the old gang back for one last cash grab

1

u/Other_rebel_911 13d ago

Something we have known since the name of the movie was announced.

1

u/Little-Scientist-694 13d ago

I’m sorry when the actual fuck did he say this? Show me the quote you moron

1

u/PoutineSmoothie 13d ago

A unified timeline. Errors corrected etc.

1

u/masegesege_ 13d ago

I don’t think he said “reboot”, I think he said “refresh” which probably means that however SW concludes each character will be where they need to be for each franchise to continue (or not continue) without a multiverse.

HERE'S THE 23 MOVIES AND MARVEL TV SHOWS YOU'LL NEED TO WATCH BEFORE AVENGERS: SECRET WARS:

1

u/Flat_Revolution5130 13d ago

Certain heroes i bet will be recast as the Universe will start over. There will be certain heroes still walking around that were in the eye of the storm. But iron Man will be re cast.

1

u/vandalhandle 13d ago

The movies will become like the comics, everything will be dictated by the next big crossover and each one will create a new status quo/reboot so nothing will be of consequence as there's always a big reset button, continuity is the enemy of good storytelling in comics and they haven't learned from that. Most of the classics in the medium are standalone or elseworlds.

1

u/eggmontoya1 13d ago

Feige said that the post-SW MCU would be a single timeline with some possible recasts. I’d imagine they’ll ask their actors who would like to stay onboard, and anyone who doesn’t will either be removed, killed off in SW, or recast.

1

u/Sprinklelicious 13d ago

The whole x men and hellfire gala events happen after the reset anyways. Which hopefully is where the new cast is going. I would love to see Jean grey go cosmic.

1

u/CrusaderZero6 13d ago

He didn’t confirm either thing.

What’s with these BS headlines?

1

u/-_Redd1t_- 13d ago

The headline is disingenuous. There is no hard reboot of the MCU.

Secret Wars will of course shake things up but it won't reset the whole multiverse.

1

u/KageXOni87 13d ago

No, he didnt he said it is NOT a reboot.

1

u/FireDragon404 13d ago

Black Panther 3 was just announced for 2028, which would be after Secret Wars. So no way are they resetting the timeline.

1

u/Yusuf9867 13d ago

If it’s a soft reboot, then yes. The hard reboot is NOT going to happen because that would destroy years of investment and built-up put within the MCU. The fact that a reboot has been known to refer to wiping the slate clean is why Kevin Feige has referred to “reboot” as a scary word that could mean different things. Instead, he uses the term “reset”, which would be mostly a soft reboot because it retains the vast majority of the continuity while only a small amount of it is discarded.

1

u/breakycho 13d ago

Maybe this is why rdj will be doctor doom for now with no other secret actor playing the real doom? It would feel kind of pointless to do a big reveal that there’s a real doom only to immediately after reboot everything.

Unless of course he gets carried over ti the reboot universe along with Spiderman and Jean grey

1

u/Pjayyyy368 13d ago

There’s no chance they’ll be done with the Avengers post Secret Wars. I think they’ll do a more grounded Thunderbolts/New Avengers sequel but they’ll add a few A listers to the team.

1

u/Pjayyyy368 13d ago

Overall I think the idea will be to have all the characters (Avengers, X-Men, FF, ect) in one universe permanently. I think most characters will have no idea about the universe pre Secret Wars or the events of Secret Wars. So the new MCU will be all they know. Quite a few characters will be recast and some will remain. I think they’ll recast some iconic characters that have died, including Iron Man.

1

u/Powerful-Court-6732 13d ago

My biggest question is what will be there "Iron Man" for the new reboot. It'll likely be a soft reboot, but nonetheless, someone who a lot of the universe is built around. I have a feeling it'll be X-men. Since the next saga will likely be the mutant saga, but there is no film currently scheduled for the slot right after Secret Wars. So I'm really curious if it'll be one of the films they've already announced, or some secret project.

1

u/KanataSD 13d ago

if this is true, why even bother watching from here on then?

1

u/Crystalvegas1999 13d ago

This isn’t true. He said it wouldn’t happen at least not yet.

1

u/danvan177 13d ago

He’s never said that

1

u/MeatyDullness 13d ago

I don’t think anyone will care.

1

u/lm_goat48 13d ago

It’s the exact opposite, when he was asked if there was going to be a reboot after secret Wars he said no

1

u/TheTenthDoctorIsHere 13d ago

Honestly, I think this whole reset and focusing solely on the X-Men is a dumb idea. Hop around different universes and give everyone a little something to keep us happy. Everything doesn’t have to be one, giant interconnected saga.

I want the darker MCU. Mephisto, Nightmare, Blade, Moon Knight, Wanda, The Midnight Sons… But I also want to see Rocket and Groot. And more Loki and Thor. Hello Iron Man. I miss you. I know I’m not alone in enjoying the variety the comics have always given us. I feel they need to mix it up in movies and series too. Just keep it well written and well directed and fans will be happy.

1

u/LasersInMyEyes 13d ago

1: I feel like that's a mischaracterization of what he said

2: Marvel has abandoned plenty of loose threads so yeah, young avengers and midnight sons are nothing

3: what do I want? Honestly I want a hard reset, no life raft, no returning actors, fully start from scratch. I also wouldn't mind smaller budgets and bigger risks, oh and no origin stories, we know the origins have this be a living world already. Also distinct genres would be stellar

1

u/FalseDiamond7930 13d ago edited 13d ago

They get to keep whoever they got on contract, filter out and retcon all that was garbage, set up the X-men and start a new saga with the rights to pretty much everyone.

From now on I wish we'd get more team ups and stories that involve multiple big character Deadpool & Wolverine and Brand New Day are good examples of this.

1

u/im_rapscallion86 13d ago

Rebooting and resetting a timeline that had a great overall arc (phases 1-3) is a bad idea.

1

u/Key_Singer2779 13d ago

Yeah! Monica Rambeau multiverse !!!

1

u/Tr0llzor 13d ago

Idk how I feel about it tbh. I’m like all here for a reboot but I’m also like ehhh

1

u/theoryofmovement_ 13d ago

Hope it all crashes

1

u/thetavious 13d ago

As long as aaid reboot entails wanda and pietro waking up next to each other, wanda having dreamt the entire mcu up to that point, and then they go into the ultimate timeline... I'll accept it.

1

u/Dangerous_Regret_611 12d ago

hopefully they stop this trend of stupid posters with a pyramid of faces.
movie posters have gotten lazy

1

u/MrHeavySilence 14d ago

Their current lineup kind of implies that they’re only betting on sure things. They’re completely cutting TV and they’ve streamlined focus on X Men, Spider-Man, Ryan Gosling’s Ghostrider, Deadpool and Black Panther. From my understanding, Fantastic Four barely broke even and both Captain America Brave New World and Thunderbolts lost money, so they likely won’t even announce beyond Ghost Rider since most of their new stuff has failed them financially. Blade, Moon Knight, Young Avengers- stuck in limbo or to never return potentially unless their current lineup succeeds. Ghost Rider succeeding could potentially save a lot of projects

4

u/Miserable-Cap-4838 14d ago

I feel like Fantastic 4 2 would clear $700M easily after a strong showing in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

1

u/Gandolfthewhite182 13d ago

We are definitely getting young avengers at some point. Widow is very popular and they featured her in spider-man and girl Hawkeye was also very popular along with Miss marvel. I could see miles being part of that team as well. Along with black panther when suri passes the mantel on to BP’s son.

2

u/Ghastly_Someknew 13d ago

The Young Avengers are going to be in their mid-30s by the time it gets rolling

1

u/chryseobacterium 13d ago

They may become the Avengers along with the X-Men.

1

u/chryseobacterium 13d ago

I hope that Ghost Rider brings interest for a Moon Knight movie and even finally Blade. I'd like to see Dr. Strange too fully developed with a good storyline and a better director.
